crowd levels in May

We will be at WDW May 28-June 1. My kids will already be out of school for the summer. I was curious as to when the rest of the world gets out for summer vacation. What kind of crowds can we expect? (Not that we have anything to compare it to, since this is our first trip!!) We will be arriving the Tuesday after Memorial Day, hoping that we are missing the long weekend crowd. Did I pick a good time to go? We can't go in the fall because I can't let my children miss school, not even for WDW.

Re: crowd levels in May

My one exerience with May was the week before and Memorial Day Weekend itself. The week before seemed pretty average attendance to me, but Memorial Day Weekend was insane. The crowds were unbareable. The schools in Vt don't get out until the middle to end of June. Probably the same in a lot of places. Hope this helps.

Florida schools are already out before Memorial Day weekend. DH's nephew in Boston area doesn't get out of school until 6/17; while my nephew in NY isn't out until 6/28........

Re: crowd levels in May

I have only been to WDW during the time you are going (the week after Memorial Day), and for us it has never seemed terribly crowded. However I don't have anything to compare it to. There only seemed to be long waits for the e-ticket stuff, but with fast pass it was never much of an issue. Except maybe test track. Have fun!

Rachael,
I wanted to add that the weather has been perfect for us every time. A little rain, but not too humid and not too hot. We always try to go around this time.

Re: crowd levels in May

Rachael,
We'll be there the same time as you all. In fact, we're also from Ga. and staying at the WL! Our kids get out the Thursday before Memorial Day(Gwinnett County)and we'll leave that very next morning!
We've never been at this time of year, but we did go last July 4th week. We figured if we can stand July 4th in the parks, we can handle anything!

As for all you others with children getting out so much later than ours, just remember my kids go back to school on Aug. 12! It's getting earlier every year!

Our kids don't get out until June 5th. But come next year, that will change. They will be getting out in May!

Re: crowd levels in May

We were there last May (earlier in the month) and the crowds weren't bad at all. We did find it to be very humid though. I can say that GA is the only state that I know of, personally, where the kids get out in May so that may help to keep the crowds down.
What part of GA are you from rachael? We live in Gwinnett county too, Las17, but farther North.

We are going to be there the weekend of the 10th so I can let you know what the crowds were like when I get back.

Re: crowd levels in May

Allison,
We're actually considering moving to Dacula one of these days! My Ob/Gyn has her office there and we like the area. Do you like it too?

A few years back, we were standing in line at WDW, and I saw that same doctor! I couldn't believe it! She was there with her family too!

Let us know about those crowds in a few days!

Re: crowd levels in May

Hi Laura!

Dacula is a nice area, especially if you have kids (we don't). One of the reasons we bought here was because it has a good school system (all important resale value, you know).

We got a great house w/a huge yard for a really good price (especially coming from Chi. where the housing market is WAY more expensive ).

You should check it out when you are ready to move, I can send you my real estate agent's name (she lives down the street in a diff. subdivision so you know that she has a great grasp of the area!).

How funny that you saw your dr. there! Isn't it amazing the places you run into people???

I will let everyone know what it was like when I get back! Can't wait!!!!

Bert & Sully,

Our kids are in public school. Starting next year (2002-03) they will be starting back on Aug. 7th and then will be getting out at the end of May.

Re: crowd levels in May

Hi Rachael,

On behalf of teachers everywhere, thanks for your attitude on not taking your kids out of school! It's terribly difficult for kids to catch up when they miss a week. Besides, if I have to wait til school's out to go to WDW, so do my students!

From what I've heard, late May to early June is relatively good. We're going 6/5 - 6/12, and I was a bit concerned about the crowds, but it sounds like the Northern schools get out late enough that it won't be a problem. Memorial Day is notoriously crowded, but lots of folks will leave after the weekend.

Have a great time!

Re: crowd levels in May

Hi to all my fellow Georgia residents!!

We are from Paulding County. Although there is a tremendous amount of growth here, it still has a nice, small town charm about it. We love it here!

I'm excited that our school systems are making our WDW trips even better. I don't know if we could wait much longer. It sounds like May is a pretty good time to go. Only 24 more days!!!!
