Just got back from a visit and we got very lucky. We went for Fast Passes to Meet Mickey Mouse and got surprise passes for Dumbo. We were actually intending to skip Dumbo because the waits had been upwards of 2 hours even while most rides were under 30 minutes. With this little bonus however we met Mickey and then zipped over and were riding Dumbo about 20 minutes later. It was awesome.
We have also gotten "bonus" Carousel of Progress fast passes. As an additional poster mentioned; we got "bonus" Dumbo fast passes from Mickey meet. In addition Hollywood Studio's was passing out Lights, Motor, Action fast passes as you walked through the gate the week of Christmas; they were giving them out on both of our DHS days....
In 2009, we got one for Philharmagic, I think when we were getting FPs for either Pooh or Peter Pan. We hadn't ever been, so we took a chance and went. Now its one of our favorites!
we got them last February for Philharmagic, too. We enjoyed that show, but didn't need to go twice. Yeah, I find Disney a bit funny the way they have so many awesome attractions and yet they still keep the super lame ones going. The lamest one for us was Country Bear Jamboree. I was so glad my little one peed herself and we had to leave early!! Riverboat was also a bore and I knew better than to waste time with Tom Sawyer Island. And then there's the Hall of Presidents....ah, but my Dad would never forgive us if he didn't get to see that one!

I can't even imagine the hue and cry of the fans if they took away CoP -- it may not be a huge fanbase, but it's stalwart. There would be sit-ins, like they had when they took out Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.
Disney can't please everyone, but they do keep the "oldies" until it becomes essential to use that space for something new.
Keep in mind that the "surprise FastPass" was created to promote a less-crowded attraction. Disney offers the extra FP to draw people to the low-crowd attraction while they are waiting for other attractions that have long lines.
