Do any special reservations have to be made to view this? What is the seating like? And by that, I mean - how early do you need to be seated if you aren't part of any sort of reserved package...

They do offer a Dinner and Show package that you would book once they become available through Disney Dining, the package includes your dinner, and then reserved seating in the theater. Seats aren't assigned but those with Dinner Packages are seated first and then any available seats will be filled in by standby guests who have stood in the non dinner package line. The price of the package varies by the tiers of restaurants. Restaurants like Biergarten are usually in the cheapest tier (last year it was $10 more then the regular dinner price for the package) and places like Teppan Edo or Le cellier were in the highest Tier and more expensive. Packages are limited and usually become available sometime end July to August.
Now without the Dinner package they do offer a Standby Line. People start lining up very early like 2-3 hours before the first show. They generally can get most of the people into A show may not be the first show, second show but maybe the third show depending on where you are in line. Or you can stand way in the back behind the ropes and listen you may not have a view or a great view but you can definitely hear it.
The first and second time we went to this we did the Dinner package the first time they didn't up charge for the dinner package, you basically booked the reservation as the CP Package and you got a sticker with your show time on it. The Second time they changed the policy and you had to give a Credit Card number (it wasn't charged) but you had to cancel 48 hours before or you were charged (the amount escapes me sorry) and they charged us $10 more per person over the cost of a fixed cost meal at Biergarten. So basically they were charging $10 for the show/guaranteed seat.
Because of that policy and charge we have seen it at least 5 times without doing the dining package. But we do get in line very early, we rotate one waits, the other goes off and gets something to eat, drink, goes to listen to voices of liberty, or the drummers in japan, and then the other switches. We have never had trouble getting into the show and based on talking to the CM's they try and get everyone in and while you may not get into the show your hoping for time wise usually by the last show they have gotten most people in.
So is it necessary to book the dining package, no, but be prepared to stand in line and wait for a while or stand in the back of the theater and listen. the only one that i'd say you would want a seat to see is Marlee Matlin she signs it with a Voice Interpreter speaking the role but its beautifully signed!
If you have questions let me know we live locally so we are there quite often during the holiday season!

Looks like we'll be able to choose Trace Adkins or Susan Lucci. Anyone seen either of them before? Thoughts?
This will be our first time seeing the CP, so I'm super excited!
I bet both of them would do an excellent job. Do you want to hear a deep male voice or a female voice? You can't lose, either way!
Last year I went to one of the TBD ones in early December, and the narrator turned out to be John O'Hurley, and he was magnificent! Looks like I might get to hear Isabella Rossellini this year -- cool!
My dates are in one of those TBD dates (Dec. 4-6 - assuming they mean Dec. and not Nov.). So I guess we just get to be surprised or will they announce someone before then? I think we are going to do the CP Dinner at Rose and Crown if we can get it. This will be my first year to actually sit down to see it. I can't wait!!! Thanks for the info.

If you have a choice, I think I would go with Trace Adkins. He has such a wonderful speaking voice, I bet he will do a magnificent job! And it's our first time seeing it, too... I am SOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!

This will be our first time during the Christmas Season and we are very excited. I just have one question when it says, Dec. 10-12, does it mean the 10, 11, & 12, or just the 10 & 12. Sorry I just want to make sure I have it right. We will be there Dec. 8-12, already have MVMCP tickets for the 9th. and would like to see this too.
