On Thursday morning DD and I arrived at DHS at 9am. That was park opening time. We arrived by TSMM at 9:10. The Fastpass return time was already 1:00-2:00pm!! We were waiting for friends so we couldn't get any as we wanted to use FP for things we do together. So went through the regular line which said 40 minutes but was 30. When we got out times were now 3:30-4:30. Our friends were leaving the park by 3 so never got to ride.
Wow, that's just crazy. Sorry you're friends did not get to ride. Probably has to do with the new rope drop procedure. Instead of actually "dropping the rope", they start letting guests into the park 30 minutes (I think) before the scheduled opening. So, even though it was 10 after when you arrived to the FP machines, guests had been getting FPs for about 40 minutes.
Each time I have gone on Toy Story Mania I went first thing in the morning right after Hollywood Studios opened and went in the standby line, which was between 5 - 10 minutes. Plus everytime after getting off I remember that the line just to get a Fast Pass was all the way by One Man's Dream.
The parks were crazy busy and crowded, but the waits for rides were never the worst we've seen in our trips. Even the wait for TSMM wasn't as long as I'd have thought staying mostly around 70 minutes the few times we looked.
