Does anyone know how people are chosen to be a part of the outdoor Harbor Attack demonstration at the beginning of the Backlot Tour? Has anyone been lucky enough to be in it? Also, is there a minimum age you have to be?
While planning for our August trip, my DSis mentioned that it would be really cool to be a part of it and I would love for the two of us to get to do it together!
Thanks for any and all help!

It's my understanding that you have to be at least 18.
My husband's been in the show twice. He got selected by volunteering in the queue line about 15 minutes ahead of the next show. The CM's came out and asked for any volunteers who wanted to be in the show and he said "yes" immediately. That's part of being selected. If you hesitate to consider it, the moment will pass you by.
Thank you so much! I guess this is something we'll have to wait for a future trip to do together since I'm 20 but she's only 17. Oh well, something to look forward to in the future and just one reason to take a trip back home!
Also, thanks for your link! I enjoyed reading about your experiences and I looked at others too! (Hope that's not weird! ) You had plenty of days in the "zone" being First Family and Grand Marshals and all! How cool! I really enjoyed reading about your experience in Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade as that is something I would also love to experience with my family! Maybe this trip we'll be hit with some extra Disney magic and we'll get a few surprises! Thanks for sharing!

My DH has done it once. We were the first people in line after the previous group finished in that area. The CMs came to us and asked if either of us wanted to do it. I couldn't remember how wet the person actually got, so I said no, but DH did it. Turns out he didn't get wet at all!
Both DD and DS were volunteers in the show on our trip in July of 2010.
DD had just turned 16 so I don't think there is an age you have to be to participate. They didn't even ask ages...
We were pretty close to the front of the line after the previous show was let in and DD had a birthday button on. That is what, I believe, triggered the CM to ask us if they wanted to be in the show.
My advice is to try to have something that sets you apart from the others in the line with you and try to get up close to the front of the line!
Be warned! You could get wet, DD got pretty wet, but DS the other hand didn't have a drop of water on him!
My daughters were selected in 2006. They were 17 and 15.
We were all at the very front of the line after the cut-off for the previous group, so they were asked if they wanted to volunteer.
They had a GREAT time, as we did watching them. All volunteers are told that their "acting" CANNOT include jumping into the water. Apparently some had in the past.

Good luck!! They had a lot of fun!!!
Thanks for the response and advice! We'll definitely keep that in mind!

Sounds great! I'm glad that there isn't an age limit! It's something we really want to do so we're gonna do our best to get there early! Maybe we'll get a little extra Disney magic and it will work out!

When we went as a big group of PassPorters in 2009 (there were probably about 30 plus of us), a couple volunteered to do it. They asked beforehand and everyone who wanted to do it just put their hands up, then they picked. I know the people who did it loved it!
I have seen them ask the group in line for volunteers by raising hands and have had them come up to us personally and ask if we were interested. The time they asked me do it there were a few people that turned down their offer. I declined and I know they asked a couple other people after me and they declined too. Makes me think its easier for them to ask everyone at one time and get volunteers that way.
I've been picked. We were waiting in line (fairly near the front of the queue) and the CMs came out and asked for volunteers. I threw my hand up and jumped around a bit and basically was very enthusiastic and I think that helps you get chosen. I got a little wet, mainly my head, because I put my hood down at one point.
Wow, a lot of people here have been picked! I was also picked back in 2002. Just randomly standing in line - not at the very front, not wearing anything special etc.
I got to be the guy in the boat that gets the 10,000 gallons of water dumped on him - my wife has great photos! The rainsuit worked well and I stayed dry, though. (Just remember their instructions to look to the right and NOT to your left!).
The last time we did Backlot Tour in 2011 they didn't take any volunteers.
If you're near the front of the line it's your best shot at getting picked when they ask for volunteers. My friends and I did it back in 2005 and had a blast. We were on the deck of the ship and really hammed it up. We didn't get wet at all. Just wish we could have seen ourselves on TV.
