During our family vacation in mid Oct 2004 my 9 yr old dd is planning to take the surfing lessons offered at Typhoon Lagoon before park opening. Has anyone taken this lessons and can give me some details? It is offered to anyone over the age of 8 and a strong swimmer, and my dd is a very athletic kid (has played ice hockey since the age of 4 and is a natural athlete) and a fairly strong swimmer so I don't think she will have any problems. Her main fear is not doing well surfing (she is a perfectionist) and I am trying to tell her that everyone will be wiping out but just to have fun.

I signed my 12 year old DS for the surfing lessons in early September. He also is pretty athletic, soccer since age 4 and he has expressed the same fears. I'm sure that wiping out will put them in the majority, not the minority. I liked the fact that they keep the group small to allow quite a few runs on the surf boards. I'm sure over the course of the program she as well as my son will be up and at em as if they were born on surf boards. Plus it will be the experience of a lifetime!! Tell her to have a great time!
