Late night EMH - experiences?

As I sit here and try to figure out which days to do what, I'm torn between taking advantage of the late night EMH or not. I'm a definite fan of the early morning EMH but I have this feeling that the late nights are going to mean super-crowded parks. We will be there the week going into Mem'l Day weekend - from Tues night late, leaving on Mon morning.

So, I'm curious what you all have experienced in the last month crowds-wise during the late night EMH (I know Jan isn't a busy month anyway, but curious all the same!) Thanks! I'd welcome feedback from last May's late night EMH testing period too! TIA

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

I was just at MGM for EMH on Sunday and there was virtually no crowd at all. If I knew how to add pictures to a post so that they would stay there (I have problems with this) I would post a picture of New York Street with my DH and no one else on it!!! The rides were all walk-ons except for The Great Movie Ride which had a short wait. We also ate at Hollywood & Vine with no PS and no wait at all! I really enjoyed being at MGM at night because in the off-season when I usually go the park closes early. I enjoyed it. It was a different experience for me at night. I would recommend it, at least in the off-season.

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

We were at Epcot the night of Jan. 6th and had the park pretty much to ourselves!!! There weren't very many people there at all!!1 We had our own boats at El Rio del Tiempo in Mexico and Maelstrom in Norway. They had to start Journey Into Your Imagination back up after we walked in (with a group of 6 right behind us) . . . there were about 50-60 with us watching "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" then it seems they all disappeared!!! We walked right on to Spaceship Earth. Since it was just me and DD, and she isn't tall enough for Test Track yet, we wandered over near there and saw that there was a 10 minute wait and heard a few people say it wasn't even that. Virtually a walk-on . . . same with Mission Space! We were in the park until just before it closed to us at midnight.

We did MK the night of Jan. 5th and found no more than a 10 minute wait for anything (except Dumbo, which had 45 minutes posted and we heard someone getting off tell another guest that when they got off the ride, it had only been 25-30 minutes since they had gotten in line for it. And Peter Pan was posted at 20 minutes and looked about that long!) Mickey's Philharmagic was a walk-in . . . Space Mountain was a walk on (but we don't do that one )!!! We left just before 10pm, when it would be closing again.

We didn't get a chance to check out MGM at night due to our IllumiNations cruise . . . and we left the day that AK would be open late. Hoping we get to try those 2 nights in March!!!

I am not always an early morning girl so the evening hours were AWESOME in my opinion . . . especially MK, becuase I never want to leave once I am there!

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

We were there when they were testing it in May and we went into Epcot at around 10.30 and although Test Track was showing a 40 minute wait and I think we had a 20 minute wait as single riders, the rest of the park was pretty deserted and nearly everything else was a walk on. I wouldn't miss evening EMH for anything - there's something wonderful about riding all those attractions so late at night. We really enjoyed it.

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

I can't wait to use this in November (hopefully they'll decide to keep it). DD, DFiance and I are all pretty late sleepers. Even when DD was in regular school (she's homeschooled right now) she'd sleep until 9 or so on weekends. Kid after my own heart!

Since EMH is only available to Disney resort guests, they still show IllumiNations at its regularly scheduled time during normal park hours so that all guests who wish to can witness this beautiful spectacle.

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

We were there in January for night EMH at MK and Epcot. Crowds were very manageable. I am spoiled, however, since the last time we were there was 3 days after the last hurricane in Sept.04 and every ride was a "walk-on" all day the first 7 days. I really like the EMH at night. I love to see everything lit up. All the outside rides take on a whole new dimension.

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

We just experienced EMH at Epcot last Thursday night. El Rio de Tiempo was a walk-on, Maelstrom was about a 15 minute, Test Track as a single rider was about 10 minutes and SE was a walk-on.

We loved it!

I love the idea of EMH at night. Our boys like to sleep in (I do too but can't seem to at Disney World ) We leave in 6 weeks!

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

Thanks - that's what I thought. I was hoping that this was the way they did it. Now we can catch Illuminations and then enjoy the park without having to worry about getting the perfect spot for Illuminations!

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

My husband and I did the evening EMH at MGM during Marathon Weekend (which was more crowded than usual). It was very crowded for the first hour (TOT had a 50 minute wait after Fantasmic, and that was the longest wait time posted all day-- we rode it 7 times that day lol!!). However, once the 1st hour was over, it was pretty dead. TOT and RNRC had about a 5 minute wait for the last two hours. We had a great time!! We headed to Dad's Tune in Lounge for the first hour, then went on the rides for the last 2 hours-- just going back and forth between TOT and RNRC-- it was great!!!

Re: Late night EMH - experiences?

I agree! I really appreciate all the info about the EMH evenings. I can't wait to try them in April - nighttime is my favorite at WDW!
