Traveling with toddler

Daughter, almost-three (in Nov 2001) grandson, son & significant other, and I will be traveling to WDW in November 2001. Our first trip in almost 10 years and first with toddler at WDW. Any tips will be appreciated: rides grandson may enjoy (other than Toontown & Fantasyland), such as Buzz Lightyear?

Definite decisions made: lodging at Dixie Landings; take our own stroller; Tiffany Town Car for ground transportation.

Thanks.

Re: Traveling with toddler

Naps, lots of naps. We had some major meltdowns back in 95 on our first trip with the kids. Then they were 3 and 2. Swore I'd never go again. Well, we were back in 97 w/o any problems. Watch the little ones and go at their pace. If you miss something you just make another trip.

You will like the DxL resort. We did not bring a stroller but we were in the deluxe resorts then which tend to be closer to parks and more compact. We rented strollers at the parks. For DxL I'd bring at least an umbreller type. Best of luck.

Re: Traveling with toddler

Hi, Boo's Nana, welcome to the boards! From my experience as a "mammie", your vacation will be dictated by the little one. He and you will need break time away from the parks.
Other rides & shows my granddaughter enjoyed at that age were Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, The Haunted Mansion, Walt Disney Railroad. At MGM - Muppet Vision, Star Tours, Voyage of the Little Mermaid & Fantasmic. At AK - It's Tough to be a Bug, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Maharajah Jungle Trek & Festival of the Lion King.

Dixie Landings is a great resort! If it's warm enough to swim, the slide at Ol' Man Island is fun for a toddler.

If you visit the board often, you will learn lots. There are many helpful folks.

Take care-

Re: Traveling with toddler

Hi Boo's Nana. Were traveling soon with a 3 and 5 year old, and 1,3,and6 year old nephews. We're planning on bringing our own strollers, not only to save money but to have when in Downtown Disney and back and forth to the buses. We are also planning nap/down time every afternoon. Hope this helps

Re: Traveling with toddler

We will be traveling to WDW this november with a 3 and 6 year old. We are staying at PO. We are planning are days around the kids and taking one day at a time. And yes planning on going back to the resort to take naps or quiet time. Another good thing is the parks close early so they will be able to go to bed at a descent time By 8:30. I will be glad to let you know what attractions the kids liked and didn't like when we get back. Hope this helps

Re: Traveling with toddler

Welcome to the boards, Boo's Nana!

Be sure to plan an appropriate amount of time for character interaction. Once these little ones get over their initial fear and shock of the BIG characters, they tend to want to go to them every time they see one! It's also a good idea to take them to some of the shows, like Legend of the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Litlle Mermaid. They get a chance to rest a little while they sit and enjoy the stories they already know!

Have a great time!
