Crocs

I took a look at some crocs the other day and almost bought a pair. I know they have a huge following. Are they really the most comfortable shoe to wear touring WDW and why? I'm an 8 1/2, what size should I get and is any particular kind (caymen, beach etc.) the best kind to walk in? I'm also going to nursing school so this could also be something considered for that too, I guess.
My kids flat out refuse to wear them so I have another question. They have Vans, they love them and want to wear them there. I've heard arguments that New Balance is a better idea. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks very much. Christine

I just came back from a trip to WDW and wore my crocs almost every day. My husband even wore his crocs some of the time (he's a big sneaker fan). I find them very comfortable. And they're lightweight and easy to clean. I got mine a while before my trip and I wear them all the time. I would get them early and try them out to see what you think. I think you'll really like them and will find they make touring WDW easier on your feet.

I swear they feel like you're walking on pillows! I like to wear them with socks and I use the strap in the parks. (I carry a spare pair of socks with me in case I get wet.)

I have the Disney Crocs and really like them -- although, they allowed my feet to squish them so that my ankles rotated out. The knock-offs I bought at Target are equally comfy and they are someone more firm and don't let me ankles roll.

DBF loves his crocs (the typical "Caymen" style), and he just bought a pair of the All-Terrains to wear at work (he's doing his residency in a hospital, so lots of standing and walking all day). Personally, I think they're ugly as sin...and yet oh-so-comfortable.
I refuse to buy the Caymen for style reasons, but I have given in and bought the Athens (flip-flop) style, the Cleo sandal, the Prima ballet flat, and the Sassari wedge. All of them are highly comfortable.
I also wear an 8 1/2 and I always buy a 9. I personally wouldn't wear the Caymen around the parks, but that's because I have high arches and really flat shoes hurt my feet. I have worn the Athens all over WDW and it feels good. I can't complain! The other pairs I own, I haven't had long enough to walk around the 'World in.

I think crocs are the most hideous shoe ever. But they are SOO comfy. So I broke down and bought a pair. I did get a different style, they have ones now that look like ballerina slippers that are made out of the same croc material. I took them with me thinking that I would wear them by the pool at DW. But I ended up wearing them EVERY DAY to every park! I wasn’t afraid of them slipping off during rides and my feet didn’t hurt even though we were walking miles and miles a day. They are very lightweight and flexible. Plus if you get them wet, they dry really fast.

At DW all the kids are going for their red and black crocks. At the top of the shoe the holes that are there are shaped like mickey ears. Now those are really cute.

I did see this article the other day, I don’t know if they are being banned from hospitals/ clinics in the U.S. But heres some info:

“Shoes’ static electricity zapped medical equipment, Swedish hospital says”

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18233132

I don’t know much about Vans other than they are really cute / stylish shoes. But for comfort, my DH only wears New Balance. He swears by them and won’t wear any other style of gym shoe.

I think the most important thing for your kids is that they wear shoes they are comfortable in. Have they worn their Vans for long periods of time/lots of walking? If so, let them wear them! If not, well, there is still a chance that New Balance won't work for them. I bought DS9 a pair and he really is not comfortable in them. I think he will start breaking in a new pair of Stride Rites before we go - that is what he usually wears, and they work for him. Whatever you decide, make sure that the shoes are broken in before you go.

As for Crocs, I have the Disney Beach ones. They are SO comfortable, but I have only worn them running around at home. So I will probably take them and my tennis shoes when we go. I wear an 8 1/2, and I have the size medium (8-9). I have plenty of room in them. DS4 has the Disney POtC Crocs, and has not stopped wearing them since he got them. He LOVES them. DS9 has a pair on order - the adult size small is impossible to get!

Whilst I agree that Crocs are a serious crime against fashion, I find them so comfy that I wear them all the time. My preference is the standard Cayman ones and around WDW I have to wear them with socks (definitely call the Style Police).

Kat has three pairs and adores them. She won't wear anything else.

Well... I used to actually work for Crocs (for a few days ). Obviously, they're not really fashion-savvy... and I personally found them VERY uncomfortable, at least if you don't wear socks with them. Feet sweat is a big issue .

I think they're a great choice for kids, though. And as for the fashion issue, they actually have some cuter styles on their website (I think the Athens are a little masculine for flip-flops, they have a much girlier pair whose name escapes me). The Mary-Janes are cute, but they sell out quick, apparently. Wvugrrrl has the right idea... the ones she listed are the most stylish, in my opinion.

As for Vans, the most important thing (for me, at least) is the arch within the shoe. I know the Vans that I own have a terrible arch, and while they don't give me blisters, my feet end up aching if I have to walk far distances. Same thing with Converse. Maybe keep the Vans but buy a better arch-thing that you can slip into the shoe?

I love my Crocs. they aren't pretty, but I don't care. I used to wear tennies to WDW, but my heels would be aching at the end of the day. I don't have this issue with Crocs. I don't wear them with socks, I do ok without them. I have over 10 pair, including 4 colors of the Disney Crocs. They seem to start out harder, but the material softens up after you wear them awhile.

Add another family of Croc lovers to the list. I got the kids the Mickey Crocs just before we left on our last trip. I talked DH into some too, but he said he'd only wear the all terrain ones. I have been wearing the Beach ones for work, but I got myself a pair of Mickey one's for the trip. My 5 year old and I wore ours without socks and DH and my 2 year old wore there's with socks. I offered to buy a pair for my grandma, but she said she would stick to her leather shoes. She was the only one to get blisters the entire trip. I did, however, have sunburned Mickeys on the tops of my feet for a few days. I also have several pair of Croc flip flops too that I love.
As for work, I work in a hospital and have always worn Berks, until I found Crocs. My feet never hurt now after work.

Put me in the favorable list. I bought mine before the trip to get use to them and they were the best things I bought. I wore them then entire trip (from leaving the house to return). They are so comfy, great stability in the water (ankle deep puddle during those sudden storms) and if you prepare before you get there they are so easy to kick off when you have to remove your shoes at security then slip them on. (It was fun watching other trying to find place to lean against or sit to put their shoes back on and all I did was drop my crocs to the floor, slip in and go off. I did adjust the strap when I sat down to wait for the plane.)

I've recommended them to everyone I know and trying to see if I can get the shoe kind to wear at work during the warm months. But yes get them and damn the fashion police. They are your feet.

I swore I would never wear Crocs because of how hideous looking they are. I was at Disney and had problems w/ my tennis shoes and decided for my next trip I was going to at least try the Crocs. I bought them and LOVED them. They are definitely the most comfortable. I have since bought a second pair because I wore the first pair out.

As for Vans, I used to have a pair and had problems w/ the arch. Definitely something to be aware of. I have a high arch and there wasn't enough support in them for me to walk a long time/over long distances.

Good Luck with your decisions!!!!

Get the Crocs!! I am on my feet 12 hours a day on concrete floors and now that I've worn Crocs I can't imagine wearing anything else. Although our trip isn't until Dec I already know that they will be the ONLY shoes I will wear in the parks. Good luck!!

I have Mickey Croc in Black w/ the red strap for my everyday errands. I have ORANGE Mary Janes to match my David Wright NY Mets Tee when I go to a game . And I have Olive/Orange Athens flip flops for whenever. As far as comfort for walking, the Athens win hands down. Nice arch and heel support. I do prefer my New Balance for long walking and standing though.

Crocs Rock

My family wore our Crocs for our last trip and it was so wonderful!!! They helped energize our feet as we spent all day on them.

Just love them.
