Not really sure where the "Hollywood" fits in...other than that MGM is supposed to be a tribute to the movies....

it's too hard to say. it doesn't roll off the tongue like Disney Studios or even Disney-Pixar Studios.

Don't care for the new name. I think Disney Studios would have been a better pick for a name.

the entire theme park was always meant to be Hollywood of the 30s/40s. it's the backstory of the park. the tagline was 'the hollywood that never was and always will be.' that's the point of most of the streetmosphere too. you're running into people who moved out west to make it big in the movies, you're walking through the backlot where directors are shouting through megaphones directing their next best film, etc.

the name is entirely appropriate, moreso than MGM was (but i appreciate what MGM meant in the 30s). i don't really care for the studios aspect though since it's a big misnomer.

I'll still call it MGM.

I think it will take some getting used to. I'm OK w/ it.

I really thought they were just going to call it Disney Studios. Especially since the vacation DVD we got a couple months ago referred to it as simply Disney Studios...no MGM anywhere on it.

the planning video has always called it Disney Studios. the terms of the contract that allowed them to use MGM to begin with prevented them from using the name in promotional materials. that's what always fueled the rumors that they were going to drop MGM (and sometimes already had).

At least they changed the name in time for me to get it in the 2008 edition of PassPorter's Walt Disney World.

And the dining plan too!

I never felt like MGM was very 1940's or any other year per se. It just feels like a big mish mash, and doesn't really feel like a studio either. To me, it would have been appropriate to just say "Disney's Park with the Big Hat" (or the BAH Park).

Universal Studios Hollywood is in Hollywood. If I heard Disney's Hollywood Studios, I would expect that is where it would be as well. But that is just me!

So, do we refer to it as DHS? Sounds too much like the Department of Homeland Security to me! Or, do we just call it DS?
