Typhoon Lagoon - 5 month refurbishment??

DH was just telling me that TL will be closed from October 26, 2008 - March 22, 2009. We opted not to add the Water Park & More option for our December trip anyway, due to a number of reasons, but does anyone have any idea as to what they are going to be doing over there for 5 months??

Usually during the winter they're rehabbed, with one being closed while the other is open. In January we were there while the switch occurred (BB closed while TL opened).

I wonder why they're closing TL for so long though....are the dates listed on Disney's website reflecting this?

Wow, that is a long shutdown. The last time they shut down for that long, they added more rides - I guess that's too much to hope for?

It's listed as 'Closed for Refurbishment' right up until the last day of February, which is as far as WDW's calendar goes. I knew TL was usually closed in December, but was very surprised at the length of time this year, when DH told me. Maybe it's part of their 'big announcement' in October Just got my curiousity peaked!

I just saw in my All Ears newletter that it's because they're resurfacing the wave pool and the children's area and they're also recoating the slides and doing a lot of painting, so sadly it seems to just be general maintenance.

Five months??? Seems like they could tear it down and rebuild the whole darn thing in that time! I hope the refurb is at least noticeable to guests

Perhaps the issues that caused the surfing program to be suspended are going to take longer to address than the usual rehab period would allow? That's my guess, but I could be wrong.

DS12 wants to visit TL next June, so I'm hopeful that the rehab is completed on schedule!
