KTTW card details please, I'm confused (again!)

While reading the thread about no more EMH wristbands, I realized that I don't completely understand exactly the 'powers' of the KTTW cards. I know they are your room keys, and that they get you into the parks, they keep your dining plan info, and that you can 'attach' them to a credit card and use them to purchase items.

I never thought it through completely that there are 4 people in my family (2 being young children), and we might need 4 of these cards. I assumed we'd get two cards so we'd have two room keys, and just use one of them for our dining plan and purchases.
Clear this up for me, you expertly experts! Do I really need to get cards for my 4 and 8 yr olds? If so that's fine, I will hold them for them, but I just want know what the heck is goin' on.
Thank you in advance.

I believe they will get their own cards (non-charge) for use as a room key and as their admission ticket.

Everyone will get their own key card, even the children. You can select to only have certain cards available for purchases. Just as you plan, I hung on to my kids key cards for them.

As long as you hold onto them, I don't see a problem, but yes, you will need cards for the kids. So when you get to Disney, you will get 4 cards when you check in. Each time you go to a park, each card will have to go through the turnstiles. If you do EMH, each one will have to be shown (I had to show my daughter's to get her a wristband even though she was clearly with us and our passes were valid). You don't have to put charging privileges with them but they can still be used to purchase dining (I used Abby's one day because mine couldn't get swiped for whatever reason.)

the turnstile issue is assuming they contain the tickets (as part of a package)

All of our family members were given a card but my two daughter's cards were only used as park admission and we held onto them after we passed thru the turnstiles. My kids like to use them as play credit cards when we get home. They make nice souveniers.

Also, each card will have the actual name of the person to whom the card is assigned printed on the front. (If you have dining credits, the "makeup" of your party will be printed there as well. With 2 adults and 2 kids, it will say something like "DDP: 2A, 2C"

So Jane (mom) will have a KTTW card printed with her name, John (dad) will have a card with his name and these will, if you so choose, both be able to charge to the room. If they have a package with dining, one these cards will be presented for using dining credits. If they have a package with tickets, these cards will get them through the turnstiles and (with the current EMH) give them access to EMH hours.

Little Jimmy (4 year old) will also have a card with his name and this card will open the resort door. I believe it will also have the ability to use up dining credits, but someone will have to confirm that. I also believe that the default on charging privileges is that kids under 12 will not be able to charge unless the parents okay it at check in.

Little Sarah, (age 2) will not have a card. Since she doesn't need a ticket to enter the park, she won't need to present it at EMH hours.

Make sense?

And something to remember when holding the cards hand the right card to the right person otherwise you will be standing there switching cards around to get into the parks I have seen it so many times. Sam has Johns card, Sally has Sue's card etc. And even though Kay was only 3 we needed to show her card to stay in for the late hours.

Wow, thank you all so much. I'm clear now. All four of us will get cards with our names on it and I'll just hold on to the kids' cards.
Now, for when we eat on the dining plan, we don't have to hand them all the cards right? Just one card will give them our DP info right?

I'm so excited about this trip, I feel so prepared, thanks to my wonderful passporter friends!!
Ok, I'm off to order my passporter pouch, maybe one for my MIL too, yes, my in-laws are coming with us! Don't groan with sympathy , they are super wonderful people and we'll have a blast, plus they are helping pay for the trip...hehe, gotta love being married to their only son! I know my MIL will indulge in some AFB's (non-A ones too, of course) with me...I've learned all about the good ones from the CLT and this forum!

Gotta run, migraine coming on, be back later! Thanks again!

Only one card on the reservation needs to be given to the server to have the credits used.

Enjoy your trip!

Some cast members will ask if you want the kids cards to have the door key on them. I know the two years we stayed at POP even though both boys were over 10 they asked if we wanted them to be able to use it as a door key as well.

Ok, thanks. My 8 yr old would think it's cool to have his own 'room key'. (that Mom will hold!)
