Illuminations Globe Rehab

I was just reading in the allearsnet newsletter that the globe for Illuminations is in rehab. Does anyone have any ideas on dates that it will be out of the show? It is one of our favorite parts!!! We will be there Oct 14-21. Thanks!!!

Mouse Planet reports that the length of the refurbishment is unknown. Hopefully it will be back before your trip!

It is a round floating LED device. I never thought about how hard it is to describe. After a few minutes of Illuminations, it would float out into the center of the lagoon and the LEDs would be showing the globe (Earth). On the continents would be pictures. Later in the show the globe would open up, like the petals of a flower, and a torch would rise up from the center of it.

Illuminations will still be taking place, just without this element of the show. They have already tested the show without the globe, it was just a matter of when they would take it out. (It, in my opinion, was not a "major" part of the show. I've always preferred the fireworks better.) So the show might be a little shortened, but still spectacular.

Sure hope they bring the globe back before our visit October 7-13. We're bringing my younger brother (ok, so he's 44) for his first ever visit, I've been raving about it for years. Illuminations is my favorite thing in all of Disney World, it's the biggest reason I keep packing my bags and traveling from Oregon. In my opinion the images on the globe really tie the entire story together. I love the fireworks too and the music! When I die, that's the music I want played.

But I am sad the globe will be missing. Has it already been taken out?

Brandi (BeatlesBran here on the boards) and her husband Tom saw Illuminations last night and told me it has indeed been taken out already. Hopefully it will return soon!

There was no globe in Illuminations when we were there last week during Fay. We thought it was gone because of the weather, but we didn't know it was in rehab. The show was about 11 minutes long instead of 13 minutes long. And it was actually cancelled one night we were there because of the strong winds (Fay). There were actually white caps on the lagoon!

According to the rehab schedule on allears, the globe should be returned about mid September. I hope so!

It was gone at least by last Monday (the 25th). It was kind of funny, my son and I were leaving via the International Gateway as the show started. I have seen Illuminations hundreds of times, and know it by heart, but this night, I was tired and just wanted to leave. So as we're walking I could hear the end of the first fireworks section, and it seemed like a few seconds later the fireworks started up again. I thought I was losing it, because the middle part with the globe is much longer... I was confused til I came home and read about the rehab, I'd had no idea!
