WDW's and DL's Haunted Mansion

Why is it that DL has Nightmare Before Christmas theme and WDW does not during Halloween?
Does anyone know?

The only answer I can give you is that I feel the two parks are the same, but different. The powers that be try to make each park individual and a destination in themselves. That's my take on it anyway...

I've heard because Disneyland California is more a park for the locals than it is a vacation destination. The overlays do involve closing down the attraction for a few weeks to put up the overlays and then again to take it down.

We were just in Disneyland and love the holiday overlays both in the Haunted Mansion (Holidays) and Space Mountain (Ghost Galaxy). Disneyland also does a Christmas overlay in It's a Small World. While we were there, it did seem that most people in the park were Southern Californians.

Having two favorite attractions down for this work would be a disappointment for visitors to WDW who happen to be visiting in those weeks.

That's an interesting theory and one I've never thought of. I must admit, having seen the Haunted Mansion Holidays version, it is a great shame that WDW doesn't do it.

(1) the parks are managed independently, which is the bottom line
(2) the base demo for Disneyland are locals while at WDW, it's geared towards once-in-a-lifetime trips
(3) it automatically brings the attraction down for 5 weeks out of the year for the overlay implementation/removal (see #2)

Wow I didnt know about the DL Holloween Theme...it would be wonderful to have special Holloween themes in WDW attractions. Maybe not the same but something special to look forward too.

That's what I've heard as well -- that it's done at DLR to draw in the locals.

Hmm, never thought of the down time. But it would be so cool if they could do it. We, at my home, LOVE! LOVE, LOVE, Nightmare Before Christmas. I guess we are going to have to make our way out to DL one of these years.

I swear I'm the only person that doesn't like the holiday version. My first trip to WDW was December 2007 and I was thrilled to discover that HM had not been dressed for the holidays. HM is one of my favorite rides at DL or WDW. Since the overlay is the Nightmare Before Christmas, HM gets closed to put in the overlay in early September and the overlay remains in place through December.
