AS Music has one too. I know that they may say they close at eleven but they do close before that as it takes awhile to do. Hairwraps are kind of expensive as people mentioned. If you don't mind the cost then go for it, but a word to the wise...the beads add up. They also are a very cool and Florida like souvenir that does attract attention to your hair. My friends still think they are cool(mind you...Im 16)

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

Has anyone experienced much damage to their hair from the wraps? And how do you remove them? I know my DD will want one when we go, and she has long, fine hair.

About the ears (hats), how expensive ARE these? Say the Santa or Sorcerer hats with ears?

My daughter didn't have any damage to her hair when she took hers out because.... we cut it out Her hair is very thick and long so the lock we cut out was underneath and not noticeable. She still has the wrapped hair, which is kind of gross, if you think about it. She had it in her hair for about 3 weeks after we got back before she got tired of it.

With tax, I think those hats are about $30.

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

I've always heard you have to cut them out!

So I usually pass on the hair wraps for DDs.

We all have Disney Hats and wear them each trip. My DD(5) has a bucket-style Minnie Hat with ears. DS (14) has a baseball-type Goofy hat (it's Goofy's face). DH has an AK visor. I have a Raiders of the Ark-type hat with Disney pins on it. DD's hat is the only one with ears. It is cute but the ears do not stand (they kind of flap back) like the traditional Mouse Ear hats; HOWEVER, be warned the regular mouse ears offer NO shade/sunprotection! If you are visiting in the summer months, you need some sun shield in a hat or sunscreen for your neck and ears and some sunglasses for walking around the parks. If you are getting the mouseear hats, have them stitch your name on it and then keep it as a souvenier or wear them when the sun isn't blazing! They do make wonderful keepsakes!

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

I never got any damage (other than a few pulled-out hairs when I removed it) when I had my hair wrap in for about 6 weeks after our trip last year. When I removed it, I was afraid it had damaged my hair, since the hair that had been wrapped was all twisted and kinky. But after a simple wash, my hair was all back to normal.

And yes, it is possible to take them out without cutting the hair. You have to be very patient, as it took me about an hour to remove the wrap from my 14" hair. You have to use small, sharp scissors (embroidery scissors work great) to cut the place on which the beads are strung at the end (no hair there - just thread), then carefully uncoil the thread upwards, cutting excess thread off as you go. When you get to where it was tied in, usually you can just gently slide the tie down the hair that was wrapped, but if that doesn't work, you should be able to pick out the knot fairly easily.

Thanks, everyone, for your information. Sounds like we may skip the hair wrap and put the money toward a fun hat instead.

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

When we were there last they did hair wraps at AK. I also remember them doing it at the main pool at OKW. My DD's had their hair wrapped several times. I found a cheaper place at the Orlando Premium Outlets at the food court. I think they were $1 per inch where Disney and Universal are $1.50 per inch.

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

Just an advance word of "caution" regarding the hair wraps- the wraps themselves are not too expensive, it's what they put in them, ie. the beads(some are $5-7/per bead!). Spend some time looking at the beads and checking out the prices BEFORE your daughter sits down in the chair! DD has had several wraps done, both were at the WL, and hers lasted quite a long time(4-6 months). They charge by the inch, so if your daughter has very long hair, then you might want to have one done from underneath, rather than from the crown of the head. Pam's hair is long and thick and the wrap she had done last year cost $50. The weight from the beads and the tension of the braid will naturally cause some damage, but not much hair is used so if you have to cut it out,it won't be too visible.

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

Both my girls had a hair wrap while we were in Disney. They looked great. Each had one done from underneath. The only thing I suggest is not getting it done at the French Quarter. Both the girls wraps fell out within 5 days. They told us it would last 4-6 weeks and neither of their lasted a week.

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

We just got back from WDW and our compromise was to buy our 10 yr. old DD one of the hair wraps that you clip into your hair (underneath a few layers of hair) and it looks like you have a regular hair wrap. We got it at MGM near Pizza Planet where they do the actual hair wrapping but I saw them other places too. I think it was about $12-15 but it comes out every night and should last a lot longer than 4-6 weeks with no hair damage!

Re: Hair braiding or hair wrapping at parks?

Hi there,

When we were there at the end of June, my DD (14) wanted to get her hair braided. We were there 3 years ago, and before we arrived at WDW we had spent a few days in Tampa and Clearwater. She had had her hair braided in Clearwater and it was such a great way to have her hair at WDW, that she really wanted it again.

Well, we asked at the Contemporary beauty salon and they told us they did hair braiding at the Grand Floridian or Coronado Springs. It was $100 for the first hour, and then $15 for every 15 min. after that. It had cost $80 in clearwater 3 yrs. ago, and it took a really long time when she had it done, so I was afraid it would run into some serious money.

I called GF, and we went over there for the woman to take a look at her hair. She assured me it would only be an hour, so we had it done. It was great for the week we there, but it didn't last nearly as long. Disney's had corn rows and then braided down her hair so it wasn't as sturdy. In Clearwater, the woman boxed her whole head up with braids directly from her skull, and she had it ending in beads. Disney's ended in rubber bands(which were easier to sleep in!)

That's a long winded explanation! Sorry! But we love having her hair braided for the trip. It is so much easier to care for. No worry about washing and drying - you can shampoo it, but with long hair, it's so much easier.

I know it's alot of money, but it's something she loves and it's special for the trip.

Have fun,

Renee
