This is a concern for Universal/IOA, SeaWorld and possibly Busch Gardens too. I just don't want this poor guy to be concerned and worry about this the whole trip or worse not even try to go on a roller coaster (which he says he loves) becuase he thinks he won't fit.
Universal, Busch and Sea World have specail seats on their coasters that are built for the larger person. Have him keep an eye out for these larger seats. If they aren't marked, ask. The make the ride SO much more enjoyable!!

The only thing he'll have trouble with at Disney is the knee knockers! I have yet to hear of anyone who could not "fit" on a ride with the exception of Dinosaur - that one can be uncomfortable for a fat butt. I'm 5'6" and definetly a pooh-sized gal (possibly tipping the scale more towards eeyore ) and my list of "uncomfortable" is really short - Dinosaur, Primeaval Hurl (request 2 seats but your but will sit on a hump), Astro-Orbitor (pain to get out of but I still ride it), and Journey into Imagination + Spaceship Earth (I ALWAYS knock my knee on the door opening). But that's it. But I still ride every single ride at all 4 parks.

We just returned from our trip to WDW 04/20/08 throu 04/26/08. I too am "pooh-sized" (size 26/28) and I am also tall 5'10". I fretted for many months before our trip worrying about fitting in rides and standing out like a sore them, etc etc. I even bought the Passporters "Open Mouse" book for guests with disabilities and special challenges (including size).

I have 2 words for those of you worrying about your size at WDW....DONT WORRY!!! I had absolutely no trouble at all on any of the rides we went on. I saw plenty of other large folks and no one is worried about your size, so you shouldn't either.

Unfortunately, the crowds were quite large, and we didn't get to ride everything we wanted, but here is a list of the rides I did go on, and had NO problems what-so-ever:

Magic Kingdom: POTC, Tiki Room, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, TTA, and the Pooh ride

Animal Kingdom: Kali River Rapids, Kilimanjaro Safari, Its Tough to Be a Bug, and Finding Nemo the Musical

Epcot: Spaceship Earth, The Land, The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends, Ellen's Energy Adventure, the boat ride in Mexico and Maelstrom.

Hope this is helpful to any larger size folks getting ready for their trip. Have fun!!

Congrats! Now if someone could post something about Islands of Adventure... I'm really wondering about their version of the tea cups and Jurassic Park. Anyone done those?

The Jurrasic ride is bench seats with padded lapbar that pulls down to your lap. If you are riding with small people they get a less secure ride. ROller Coasters have the RnR style security pull down harness. They are NOT as accomonadating as RnR is... But they do have 2 rows for people who are bigger. I don't recall having any problem with Hulk, but I did need the special rows on Dueling dragons. The Special seats hace two seatbelts instead of one that clip in front of you. All other attractions were no problem. I don't genreally have a problem getting my butt into a seat, its my upper half that is larger.

I too am Pooh-sized and had no problem with any of the rides. Turnstyles are tricky, but use the wheelchair entrance if needed, the CM's won't mind. They are very helpful.

My only trouble with being Pooh-sized in the World is I can't find any t-shirts larger than 2x in shops. Do they even carry 3x? If not, I wish they would since they are so accommodating in other Pooh-sized areas.

Hope this helps.

Kathy

I found a few 3x shirts this past trip, but only one was at a non-attraction shop. No, 2. I found a Main Street scene tshirt with Walt and Mickey in the Emporium on Main Street and a zip up terry cloth hoodie/bathing suit cover up in the enclosed gift shop at the Contemporary. Other than that I only found 3x shirts at Rock n' Rollercoaster and Star Tours. Oh, and the Team Mickey shop, but those are all (obviously) sports themed. Their baseball jerseys are the BEST. But if you are kind of in the middle or larger part of a 3x you might have to tug at the tshirts a bit to make them fit comfortably. It was a bit of a let down not to see more. But if you are willing to wear guy's clothing, the World of Disney store in DTD has things like hoodies in 3x that are more than big enough. I wore mine almost every day once we got back until the end of March.

Wow, that ended up being a lot longer than I thought.... Hope it was atleast a help to someone.

I actually find that I often like some of the "MENS" stuff better. I'm not realy into the "girlie girl" stuff, I just like my Disney stuff to look good. Back in 2004, I bought a sweatshirt jacket from WOD out of the men's section and even though it is WAY to big now (I've lost about 100 pounds), I still wear it. I just have to roll the sleeves up - way up!!

Congrats on the trememndous weight loss. I'm working towards that goal myself. I have got to figure out a way to be in better shape when we go to Disney this Sept.

So for any passholders that got to preview Toy Story Mania, am I correct in assuming the ride is as pooh-friendly as all the others? I'd be shocked if it wasn't, but I thought I'd ask.

Oh, and congrats on the weight loss - to everyone who is working to get more healthy. That's great!

Thanks! And health is primarily why I did it (looking better is simply - forgive me - the icing on the cake). Arthritis is an issue in my family and knee joint replacements seem to be the thing for my maternal side of the family tree. So, I wanted to get rid of what I could so that if/when I'm in the same boat, it's not as hard to get back up walking. Since last Monday, I have been walking 15 minutes in the morning and 15 in the afternoon (you know - union break time) and it feels sooooo good. I still would like to lose about 40 pounds so I'm watching what I eat, getting my butt out of the chair and doing what I can. Good luck to all trying to make any kind of life/health altering changes.

Yes, I will need to start shedding pounds myself, now. Arthritis is becoming an issue, including and especially the knees. Just fifty or sixty pounds off would be a wondrous achievement, IMO. I'd still be quite overweight ... but at least, I'd be in the 250-270 range, instead of where I am now.

Losing an entire hundred ...? Ye gods, I haven't been that thin since I was eighteen or twenty ...

Yeah, I'm trying to just go by small goals. It's much more achievable. (Yeah, I'm pretty such that's a word.) Thanks to those of you who posted about Universal. I guess it's going to the same as it was for me with Disney - I'll just have to try it before my butterflies calm down.
