Cheapest Way to do Universal?

We have been given a week's trip to Boca Raton...my dh is going there for work and we are tagging along...he will not have to work too much during the week more of an "on call" type capacity. On our way back we thought about doing Universal....one day 2 adults, 2 kids (5-7) we are AAA members....what is the cheapest way to do this??? Thanks

We just booked the Doubletree Orlando across the street from Universal for $70.60 per night. (my sil got it cheaper with her AAA.) It says it is a ten minute walk and looks pretty nice.

We stayed at The Doubletree with an AAA rate. The rooms were a good size, very comfy, nice pool area, dining close by, an Ale House and I think a Golden Coral too.
If you can manage 2 days, I'd do that. Universal is 2 parks, so a day each. Or just decide to do 1 park for only a day visit, esp with children that age, you won't be moving too fast. And when you do rush around, I think you are so busy rushing, that you miss alot. Good luck.

You can buy AAA passes on their website that will save you a few bucks. Show your AAA card in the parks and get 10% off at most restaurants.

If you want to stay onsite, you can actually get 2 days worth of front of the line access with one night's stay in one of Universal's resorts. You can check in at the hotel first thing in the morning and pick up your room keys. Your room probably won't be ready, but they will call you when it is available. Just take your keys and head to the parks. On the day you check out your room key is good all day as well. You can get AAA discounts on Universal resorts as well.

I'll second the Doubletree as a offsite option, although I don't think I would walk to the parks from there. They have free shuttles to the parks, but plan to leave an hour early because the shuttle will stop at other hotels before dropping off at the parks. Check travelocity, expedia, etc. for great Doubletree rates.

Mousesavers.com has a Universal page with all the discounts available for Universal parks:
