Hi all! I've been looking around for the size limits on the waist pack you can wear during rides like FJ, and I'm getting nowhere. I want to take a convertible bag that I can wear as a cross body except while riding the rides that require a waist pack.

The one I would prefer to use is the Overland Bayliss, which has dimensions of 7.5" x 8" x 3". It has the 3 prong attachment, which I understand is the "right" one, and it's not too dorky.

Second choice is the Baggallini Bigg Zipper, which has apparently been allowed even though it has lobster claw clasps. Dimensions are 11.5" x 11.5" x 1".

I just would like to avoid the lockers, as I'm told they are a pita. Thanks!

My understanding is that no bags are allowed (waistpack or other) on FJ and that everything has to go into the lockers.

I've heard of folks wearing waistpacks on the ride; I didn't know that the clasp mechanism was an issue.
I don't think there's a size limit as much as a question of "does it fit." Can you slide it to the side, still fit in the seat and not interfere with the safety harness. How much of the seat space is filled by the rider? A bigger bag that's empty takes less room than a small one that's packed full.
I'm thinking both those bags would be too big. My SIL had a wallet-on-a-string and was asked to put it in a locker. She wore it crossbody, and it took less space than most waistpacks.

As far as I know, you have to take off fanny/waistpacks to ride.

I think both of those bags are too big. I managed just fine with my waistpack that I use for running:


plus I had my point-n-shoot Canon camera in a little case hooked onto my belt loop and they didn't ask me to remove either one. Of course, I was wearing a black shirt, so the waistpack probably wasn't entirely visible... but the camera holder sure was. And neither one got in the way of the harness either. We rode 3 times with no questions asked. I just googled the two bags you listed, and they look too big. I hope you can find something smaller in a waistpack because it sure was nice to walk straight on w/o dealing with the lockers! Good luck!

We didn't try to take anything on those rides. (Well, my youngest niece snuck her little camera on FJ and recorded video during the ride! )

The lockers at FJ were *insane* when we were there in February. If possible, have one person from your party handle everyone's things, to cut down on the number of people who have to fight their way in and out of the locker area.

I'm hearing the same thing about the size on the other board I'm using, plus the lady who said she wore the Bigg Zipper actually meant a different (smaller) Baggallini. That site, btw, is adamant that there are many, many waist/fanny packs that make it onto the "big" rides.

I'm bordering on Pooh size, and an actual fanny pack a) has some fit issues and b) makes me look MUCH larger than I am. I just don't do them anymore.

My mom is coming with us, as dh can't be there. Ds11 is very adventurous but ds13 is not. Mom will sit out a lot of stuff with ds13, so I guess I'll just leave my bag with her. We will all ride FJ together at least once though, so I was trying to minimize the pain by using a bag that could convert, just for that ride.

There's another set of lockers right at the entrance to Hogsmeade (when entering from the Suess/Lost Continent side) directly behind the Train. Most people enter this way first thing in the morning, and most people high-tail it over to FJ. These lockers are the ones folks use before entering Dueling Dragons. It's inside the building that supposed to be the train station.

Perhaps you could utilize those lockers instead with no line or chaos, and then head over to FJ! I thought of that while I was there, would I have been in need for a locker. There were never very many people in there. I mean, ultimately it doesn't matter what lockers you use, just as long as you use one, right?

I think that would be okay, unless there's a big difference in the wait times. IIRC, the lockers are free for a reasonable amount of time that's based on how long it takes to get through the particular ride. If I understand the process correctly, you might have to pay for the locker if the wait time for FJ is a lot longer than the wait time for DD. Anyone else know for sure?

CyndiLoo, I think you've hit on a good option with having your mom hold the bags. As long as she doesn't mind, of course! Middle niece did the same thing for youngest niece and myself during a ride or two. (MN has back issues and passes on a lot of the "thrill" rides.)

That is true. The free use of the locker is based on the wait time, and can change as the lines swell and wane. And if your purse is in the locker, it's really hard to pay the locker fee to get your stuff out So you can't put it in 45 minute Dueling Dragons locker then hop in a 90 minute Forbidden Journey line.

What I don't recall is whether there are any of the traditional "all day" lockers where you pay up front and get a key. Like at Disney.

There are lockers at the very front for $8/day, with in/out privileges. But I want to keep my camera, glasses cleaner, tylenol, etc with me all day. It's only going to be an issue for those rides that don't let you bring a bag on board.

they are free, but they do lock. They use a fingerprint scan to identify the user. Probably safer than a locker with a key that you could lose.
