Can We Really Manage to Go Bag Free?

Hi:

We'll be taking our 1st trip to Universal next week (me, DH, DD 17, her BFF 17, DS 11) & we're trying to go bag free to avoid the lockers. We'll be making DH & DS wear cargo shorts to carry the stuff we really need , & I think we can do it, but what about baseball caps & sunglasses? We need those & they won't fit in the shorts pockets! Should I just plan on taking a bag? Thanks!

Why not just wear the hats and sunglasses? Bag free does make access to the parks a lot easier. And faster

But will they allow the loose hats and sunglasses on rides like Forbidden Journey?
If not, and they can't be locked down in a pocket, you haven't gained much.

If you can't go totally bag free, consolidate as much as you can and send one person to the locker area. The biggest problem we had with the lockers wasn't the locker per se, it was the congestion around the locker bank. If you can cut down on the number of people in that crowd, it's more pleasant.

I always sit on my baseball cap during coaster rides. I have never lost one. I hold the sunglasses in my hand. It's doable!

We didn't put our stuff in lockers during Forbidden Journey. I even had my camera out. Before I sat down, I was fussed at to not take pictures during the ride. They didn't keep me from getting on though.

Thanks, all! I've been thinking we may take just a small bag. I will most likely sit out the wildest rides & will hold the bag. We'll just deal with the lockers as we need to. We're staying onsite, so any time spent waiting for the lockers will be made up in using the express line.

I've gone bag free at Universal many times. I've worn cargo shorts and stuffed my wallet, keys, and camera into my pockets and I've survived. If I wear a hat, I usually hang it on my belt when I get on rides. I don't wear sunglasses, but you can stuff them into a pocket or hold onto them. You can even get a pair of sunglass straps so they don't fly off your face on the roller coasters. I won't ride the sunglasses on indoor rides, though.
