So, you all know how a soft opening works, right? For example, when we were at Magic Kingdom back in December, we happened to be walking by Laugh Floor Comedy Club when it "opened" and we got to check it out in advance.

So you may want to "walk by" the PassPorter's Club.

Well, I guess you got my hint... welcome to our 22 new PassPorter's Club passholders! Wow!

Everything is going smoothly so far, so I will officially declare a "soft opening" for the PassPorter's Club in a new post (as I know this one is getting very long!).

Wow. It looks very nice. Unfortunately, I won't be joining any time soon. I hate to be the big downer here, but I don't agree with it. I know everyone is entitled to join, but it really does seem to be a status kind of thing and to me it looks like a way to separate the group into the cool kids and the not-so-cool kids. I buy a Passporter every year, but now I feel like maybe I won't be getting all the information available unless I pay to be a member of the club. I mean absolutely no offense to anyone that chooses to join. I have been here for almost five years and have made some really good friends and that will not change, but I find the whole Private Club thing just so ..... not me. Again, sorry to be so negative.

Melanie, I just posted this in the Soft Opening Announcement post:

No and no! The Club is first and foremost an information repository -- a sort of online library or electronic book club. Everyone can join, but it is optional. Our community members are highly valued, passholder or not. No privileges are being removed from our community members' accounts. The Club is an add-on -- passholders receive NEW access on top of what's already available freely to anyone.

I hope it resolves your concerns. This is not a status thing -- we've all made great pains to not make it so. We aren't encouraging chatting in the Club at all. This is a less expensive way to get our e-books, which have been available in the PassPorter Store for over a year now, each at $4.95 per e-book. You can still get the e-books individually via our store if you wish.

PassPorter's Club will help us keep these message boards open and free to everyone -- as you might imagine, they are costly to maintain. We actually deliberated over this idea for several years until we came up with the right solution. I realize we can't please everyone -- this is true of our guidebooks as well -- but I hope we can please most. As always, I respect ALL opinions, and I think you for sharing yours, Melanie!
