| New Photo Size Guidelines for Posts and Signatures Please note that effective January 1, 2008, we have new guidelines for the size (height/width) of photos posted in the body of posts and in signatures in the PassPorter Message Boards. These changes are intended to improve everyone's experience. Photo Size in Body of Posts: We're increasing the maximum photo size to 640 x 480 pixels (previous size restriction was 400 x 400 pixels) for photos in the body of posts. This maximum photo size applies to posts in all forums except The Darkroom, which has an even larger maximum size of 800 pixels when linked from an outside source. Click here for instructions on posting photos and technical support with posting images. Note: Photos which exceed these maximum sizes will need to be resized by the poster or they may be removed. If you upload your photos to the PassPorter message boards, our system will automatically resize them to 680 pixels. Photo Size in Signatures: We're decreasing the maximum size of photos in signatures to 300 pixels tall x 400 pixels wide (previous size restriction was 400 x 400 pixels) for photos in signatures. This maximum size applies to member signatures. Please also note that a maximum of three photos may be displayed in a signature. If you display more than one photo in your signature, please try to keep your total photo size within the 300 pixels tall by 400 pixels wide guideline, as seen here: ![]() Other Signature Size Limits: Maximum Text Size - We've changed the maximum text size allowed in both posts and signature to 5 (previous maximum size was 7). If you have text larger than this in a post or signature, you may be asked to downsize it. If your signature has text larger than size 5, you'll need to downsize it before the system will allow you to save changes to your signature. Maximum Lines - We've also changed the maximum lines (hard returns) allowed to 7 (no previous limit). A "line" appears each time you press the Return key on your keyboard. Soft returns (wrapped lines) do not count. Why so many changes? Our goal in decreasing photo and text sizes in signatures is to see shorter signatures, as we feel that a signature that takes up an entire screen is excessive and interferes with everyone's enjoyment of our message boards. We'd like each of you to reevaluate your signature to adhere to our guidelines and in general modify it take up less space (screen real estate). A good rule of thumb is that your signature should be no longer than the sidebar to the left of your posts when your post consists of just one line. Here are two good and bad examples: Good Signature Example Bad Signature Example To get help creating a signature, see our signature tutorial: Create a Signature Under Your Posts Note: Signatures that are not within our guidelines by January 15, 2008 may be modified by us without warning. Signature Contest! To encourage shorter signatures and adherence to our new guidelines, I'm holding a daily signature contest beginning Friday, January 4 and ending January 15. Each day I will choose a signature that I feel adheres well to our guidelines while at the same time conveying the personality and spirit of a given member. To ensure I see your signature, please make any necessary changes to your signature then post a reply to this thread to show off your new and improved signature: Signature Contest -- Post Here! Thank you!

| Aarggh! I just noticed my new (6 mo old) PC does not have easy photo editing software. I will make my sig photo smaller, once I can figure out how! lol I agree that smaller signatures will make reading a lot easier, great idea. And wow, has Allie grown up! Beth

| I understand why you're doing this, but I love the signature photos of others, and now I'm afraid they are too small to see. Oh well. I'm probably outnumbered in my opinion. No biggie, I'll change mine, just sad to see it changed.

I was curious about that too; I was going to put my countdown next to my photo, but couldn't figure out how to move it, much less get it towards the middle next to the picture...figured I'd post it in the Garage forum later. Other than that, I think I have my signature under control! Somebody let me know if I should change something.

| Text you can put to the side of your image by making sure there are no "carriage returns" after the [IMG]http://whatever[IMG] text. I don't think you can have your Countdown or your Previous Trips info sit to the side of the image because those are pulled from your profile and not your signature file. I *was* blonde and I *was* a techie... so I'm dangerous! Eileen
