old passporters

What do you do with old passporters refills (the ones you take out of the leather notebook)? I have one I'm using now for our cruise in 2009 but we are also taking a WDW trip in 2009 so should I order a spiral bound book or a refill??

TIA

I pass my old ones along to people planning their vacation. A number of people have then gone out and bought their own PassPorters, as they've enjoyed the information so much.

For the old refills that I used the passpockets and put all our memories on, I got metal rings to put through the 3 holes so that the book stays together and we can still flip through it to read it. I've often thought about asking what others do with theirs, so I'm glad you posted this!

For 2009 I ordered the refill and a spiral bound so that I have the spiral to use as our "keepsake" but I can still use the leather book to put stuff in for planning.

I put rings on the old insert and give it to someone who is thinking of a WDW trip.

I cut the maps down and laminate them. I then punch a hole in them and attach them to our stroller. It is a great quick access map when we have our hands full!

I keep the PassPockets that I have used (rubber banded or paper clipped together and put in a gallon ziploc bag). I have been known to cut up the old pages and scrapbook parts . . . and if I don't loan out an older copy to someone planning a trip, and it stays on my shelf forever and ever, I put the text pages in my recycle bin with all of our recyclable paper.

I guess I need to partly clarify, We are cruising in Jan 2009 and going to WDW for a few days after. I have the cruise one in my deluxe now. We are also planning on going to WDW in Oct. 2009.

My question is: Should I get a deluxe refill WDW 2009 or just a spiral bound so I can have both in January?

The contents of the deluxe refill and the spiral edition are identical - only the "packaging" is different. The costs of the deluxe refill and spiral are also the same, so there's no money to save.

I see two issues facing your particular situation - managing the available space in the deluxe binder if you buy a refill kit, and managing the use of your PassPockets if you buy a spiral.

For your land/sea vacation: There's no way to fit the full texts of both books plus a set of PassPockets into a single deluxe binder. You can make space by eliminating parts of both books that you don't need while on vacation - resort descriptions for resorts you won't be visiting, port of call info for ports you won't be visiting, excess PassPockets, etc. You probably also will want to leave out the WDW front and back covers that come with the refill kit, since they're fairly bulky (despite the useful maps those covers include). If you do that, then the deluxe binder can be your own, one-stop customized resource.

After the land/sea trip, you'll probably want to remove the cruise pages from the binder, and restore the full text of the WDW edition, so be neat and organized when you combine the two texts.

If you get a WDW spiral, you have the advantage of having the full text of both books, but on the downside, you'll be carrying two books, rather than one. Of course, you'll only need the spiral while at WDW, and the cruise deluxe while you're on the cruise, so at least you won't be carrying both with you on a daily basis.

You'll also have an issue with PassPockets, since you'd be using the spiral for two trips. If the total time you'll be spending on land during the two trips is 10 days or less, you've got enough Day pockets in the spiral to handle both trips. If not, I think the deluxe refill method is the better way to go, since you'll have 20 Day PassPockets to use flexibly between the two trips. If you go with the spiral, I'd use the Journey, Rooms, and Magic Memories pockets in the Deluxe for both land and sea portions of the first trip, and those same pockets in the spiral for your second trip. You'd have to just keep track of which Day pockets in the spiral you were using for the first trip, and which ones for the second trip. Or, on the first trip you could remove and carry one Day pocket from the deluxe for each day you're in the parks, slipping it into the back of the spiral, for example.

If you buy a deluxe refill, you'll have two binder-compatible sets of PassPockets. You'd use one set for your first trip, and the second set for your other trip. That'll give you more flexibility as to how you use those pockets (and you could also buy additional pockets from us if needed).

I think I've managed to cover all the logistics.
