I have the web address for the forums bookmarked, so I generally skip it. I only go to the "home page" if I'm looking for a different area of the site.
I click on the home page and sometimes glance at the top article, but usually go right to the forums/message boards. Since I visit daily at least ONCE or twice, I stay on top of the articles so glancing at the top/first one usually keeps me on top of the news.
