Adventurer\'s Club & Comedy Warehouse RE: Allie\'s Tips...Jennifer? Dave?

I've been reading my newly aquired 2005 WDW Passporter and found something interesting on the section about Pleasure Island. When I read the info about the Adventurer's Club and Comedy Warehouse I noticed there were Allie's Tips for kids listed. Also, the text suggests that if you decide to take your kids to these places that you should be prepared for some good natured ribbing from the performers.

My question...hope I guess, is that Jennifer, Dave or even Allie might be able to elaborate on this.

DH and I have never been to the Comedy Warehouse so we have no knowledge of it other than what I've read in the guidebooks and various websites. As for the Adventurer's Club, we've only been once and took DS who was 11 1/2 with us. We left early (around 10:30 or 11pm). DH absolutely loved the place...he's a theater rat so no wonder...I greatly enjoyed it and DS even had a good time, but became bored after a couple of hours. DS did not get most of the adult humor...perhaps it wasn't as "adult" while we were there? I did notice that he got a little and realized my baby is growing up.

We are headed back to WDW very soon and DH and I would both like to go back to the Adventurer's Club and to the Comedy Warehouse, which we think DS would love since he's a fan of Whose Line is it Anyway. He will be 13 (and 2 weeks) when we're there and I'm just not sure about him going along this trip.

So, just how "adult" is the Comedy Warehouse? Is there bad language? Is there a great deal of sexual content? How would it compare to an R rated movie? I mean some of the PG-13 stuff has a good deal of inuendo in them. Could it be compared to the material on Whose Line? How bad can it be? It is a Disney, right?

And for this warning about some good natured ribbing from the performers??? When we took DS to Adventurer's Club, we received none so just what might I encounter if we take him this trip?

And Allie, can you tell me why I should not sit next to the telephone?????

Thanks for your help....anyone who might be able to give me their thoughts. I'm just hoping since Jennifer, Dave and Allie wrote the book they might be able to expound upon their original thoughts.

Additionally, I know that it is ultimately my decision as DS's parent whether or not we permit him to go with us....but can't decide if I like the thought of leaving him at the resort alone either. He is a good kid and an only child that I think would do fine at either location, but not 100% sure. And, if you might suggest taking a friend to keep him company...definitely not ready for that yet! One teenager will be enough I think...

Thanks again!

I was at both two weeks ago. Both clubs had children accompanying parents.

They were adult humor, but did not go beyond risque as was your previous experience.

The don't sit next to the telephone is a warning. You might become part of the show. The ask you questions when you answer, and then do comedy based upon your answers.

It was a GREAT time

As we noted, it's adult humor Disney-style. Call it on the borderline between PG and PG-13. No language to worry about, but an occasional adult reference that may or may not go right over the kids' heads. Whenever the audience suggests an improv situation that's over the line, the cast reminds them that they're at Disney. If anything, Whose Line is it Anyway is significanly more risque, as that show often plays with gender roles.

Allie warned about sitting next to the telephone because she's shy- she'd rather not become part of the show. I've seen how the cast handles things when a kid answers - they do it very appropriately to their age.

For the part about the good-natured ribbing, I have witnessed this at Adventurer's Club -

While sitting in the main downstairs area, a family with a child (preteen) was sitting in the very center, where the audio-animatronics characters talk to you. One of them (I think it was the Colonel) made some remark about parents bringing children to bars, but they didn't dwell on it, it brought a chuckle from a few people, and then the moment passed. I don't remember any of the live characters making any comments about it, but if they did it was along the same lines.

I would say to take your son, just go to the first Comedy Show of the evening, it tends to get a little more adult as the evening goes on, although never too out of line.

He would probably enjoy the Rock & Roll Beach Club - in addition to the band and dance floor they also have pool tables and video games. And it sounds like Motion might be a pretty good bet with kids, although I have not been there since it is new.

An alternative to leaving him in the hotel room, if you are still not sure about Pleasure Island, and if you are OK with him being by himself for a little while, is to let him see a movie at the theater while you check out the clubs. Since it is right outside the PI gate, it would be convenient, then you could meet with him after his movie and eat somewhere together.

A more expensive option would be letting him go to Disney Quest. But this would only work out if you are wanting to be at Pleasure Island for quite some time, because if you let him in DQ he may not want to come out. Also it is much more crowded in the evening and he wouldn't have much time to do all the activities. Be aware that DQ closes before PI does - either 11 during the week or 12 on the weekend.

Thanks so much! I do believe we will let him go with us if he wants to...which he usually does. I will keep in mind the suggestions about earlier than later, which is what I had in mind. As for the telephone...I just may put DH next to it if some isn't already there....he'd love it!

Thanks again!
