| Pregnant Disney Vacation I just wanted to thank you all for helping me plan my Disney Vacation. I only found out yesterday that I am 5 weeks pregnant. My DH & I booked our Disney vacation two months ago for August. I wasn't so much worried about the initial travel and flying. I live in a community where I will be flown out at 7 months to give birth in civilization. From the information I read on this site, I know no to keep myself well hydrated stay away from crazy rides [which I'm sure my DH has no problems with] and take it easy [which is something else my DH loves]. I am such a go getter and had plans to hit every thrill ride available at Disney and Seaworld. However, little peanut has made me change my plans and I'll just ride them in a couple of years when I'm able too. If it wasn't for sites like this I would be paranoid just looking at a thrill ride. I may attempt to do the Safari - as it can't be any worse than driving around my community here - where we don' t have pavement just gravel roads covered in rutts. I'm very much looking forward to the Haunted Mansion and laying at my Resort with a Lime Seltzer [Lime + Soda Water with lots of ice] and relaxing on what has turned into our BABY MOON! If anyone has any more tips please feel free to post them, I can use every tip possible as this is my first wee one. Either on pregnancy or Disney...LOL or both |

| I did the safari at 7.5 months preganant and was fine....everyone on the truck got a huge chuckle when I moaned very loudly when they were talking about the elephants being pregnant for something like 2 years!! That was the "roughest" ride I went on that trip though!

| Welcome to the boards Tammy Having never had a baby I don't have great answers. But I would check with my doctor & see what she/he thinks. Have a wonderful trip, & listen to your body. Rest when needed & don't do anything too wild..

| First and foremost is that just because a 9 month pregnant lady rode Everest and Splash Mountain does not mean that it is safe, that there was not hidden problems or damage, or that it would be comfortable for the person. I hear too many people saying that they have XXXX and did something despite what those of us with XXXX would never recommend. Second is your attitude which I love because I see the risk as greater than the experience from riding certain rides. I have a bad disc in my back so I would love to ride Indiana Jones and AK's Dinosaur but am not willing to face a week in bed in pain. The guilt factor will mean 50 years of wondering if riding Space mountain while pregnant caused the kid to be born defective in some way or for pregnancy complications. What can you do to make the trip better? Talcum powder, sunscreen, lotions, and snacks are important. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. I see to many people in tight clothes but with the heat your body needs clothes that can breathe and circulate air. You will be packing on extra weight which can tire you out. You body may still be having a conniption fit over that strange thing in your body like morning sickness. Listen to your body an do take breaks even if it is walking around an indoor building like the Living Seas. Check the disabilities guides as sometimes there are alternate viewing area like Nemo subs at DLR or you can get in line and experience the line like with Tower of Terror then use the exit. Make sure you air out your feet once in a while. Elevate your feet when you can to help with the added weight. Cravings means your body needs something like sugar, vitamins or salt. They may be weird but go with your cravings or at least try something similar like frozen yogurt for ice cream. Renting an ECV is a great way to get around the parks though most pregnant ladies do not need one until the last trimester. Rent off site as the park ones cannot go on the MK trains and are slow behemoths. Have fun and remember that there are those of us who have physical and/or mental limitations who cannot ride some or most rides but the parks at WDW and DLR have so many wonderful things to do without riding a ride. I toke a lady on a two day DLR tour and she loved the flowers, architecture, park history, people, food, shows, and things that are not rides like the Animation building and street performers. Use this time to take a step back and enjoy the parks for their art, plants, animals, architecture, marketing, people, showmanship, and other little things that make parks so special.

| Congratulations on your pregnancy! I went to Disney 7mths pregnant and it was fine. I did exactly what you plan to do, relaxed and took it easy. I was a little disappointed about not getting to ride certain things but ofcourse they were the first things I did on the next visit. I would suggest that you visit the baby centers, they are wonderful and if you plan on going back when your little one is still little they are great. They are also air conditioned and the one at MK has rocking chairs and a TV incase you need a break. I also spent a LITTLE $$ on some cute outfits! |

| Thank you everyone! Thanks everyone for the kind words. It is hard to get recommendations from my doctor, as I live in a community that does not have one - just a Health Care Aid - When I asked the HCA about Disney she said "use your own discretion". Thankfully I'm smart enough to realize the hidden dangers associated with Thrill rides. Luckily, my Cousin is a doctor so when I get back down to civilization prior to the vacation to Disney I will hit her up for her recommendations. (And with sites like this one, I'm sure that anything she recommends I will have read the advice from here) Thank you for the advice with regards to talcum powder, keeping my feet raised and relaxing [I'm lucky to have a very understanding husband, who has gone into very protective husband mode already....lol I'm wondering how I can use this to my advantage - unfortunately he doesn't deem doing the dishes as dangerous]. I'm all for frozen yogurt verses ice cream... there is something to be said about chocolate frozen yogurt soft serve & fresh strawberries!!... I do have another questions, my husband was doing some research and he wants to book us a day at Discovery cove to be a "Trainer for the day". You swim with dolphins - on their website, they leave the decision about participating with the mom-to-be.. Any hints about Discovery Cove + Pregnancy..... (When speaking with them, they said that they tend to say no to moms to be in their third trimester, and that was all they had on the idea) |
