| Anxiety / agoraphobia, resorts, and touring Hey all, so I'm planning my first solo trip for October, right smack dab in the middle of the Food and Wine Festival. (Note: the dates were chosen for me, there are extenuating circumstances and I'd rather go and have to use my pharmaceuticals than to not go and miss a big event that's uber important on a personal level.) But...I'm trying to figure out which resort to stay at. Financially, I could really stay at any, lucky me, since it is just myself, but am leaning more towards the value / moderate, since that will give me more "me" money for that spa visit... Question: Which resorts are better for people with social anxiety and mild agoraphobia? Hopefully a little bit quieter, and smaller, yet not way out in left field so that a quick escape is still possible? Looking at the maps and guidebooks is just confusing! I'm thinking maybe Port Orleans. (?) Last edited by Misc; 08-25-2009 at 09:01 PM.. Reason: changing title, adding in some stuff. |

| MouseSteps - Home Check out her great photographic walks through parks. Walt Disney World - Disney World Vacation Information Guide - INTERCOT - Walt Disney World Inside & Out - Resort Guide that shows the maps so you can decide what you want I do not know much about agoraphobia and what you need, sorry, but I can give you a couple links to get you started. http://www.intercot.com/resorts/disn...s/wlodge07.JPG Wilderness Lodge is a smaller proprty and is Y shaped with a pair of wings off of the main lobby. A bit of a bus ride but nice views and rustic.

| I'm not sure what might give you anxiety but here are a few comments that may help narrow it down for you: We have stayed at Pop and found it a nice size - nothing seems too far away from the main building and you can request a premium room which would be close. The walkways between buildings are lovely - they are spacious without being wide open- there are lost of green spaces and shrubs that make it intimate. We are booked to stay at POFQ this fall because it seems to be a similar size and feel. I think you may find POR to be large - that's what we heard and why we chose the FQ side. I love the WL, but I do find that the lobby is big with a soaring ceiling, so if that would be overwhelming for you, you may want to pass. If that sort of a vibe is a good one for you, then FW has cabins that are charming and their main building is much more cozy - no vaulted ceilings in sight! The only downside to FW for us was that it's a little out of the way and not really quick to get around (there are internal buses and then either a boat or bus to transfer to). The boats that take you from MK/TTC to FW are nice little ferries that we enjoy - I'm not sure what your feelings on those may be. The cabins are nicely surrounded with trees and it feels lovely and cozy on the grounds so waiting for a bus was not a hardship - just meant it took a little longer to get places than it would have staying at Poly or Contemporary. I hope you enjoy your trip - we'll be there at the beginning of October

| Hi again! Port Orleans came to mind, for some reason, but I'm thinking Riverside and not French Quarter, which has busy dining area with giant scary heads staring down at you...may not be what the Dr. ordered for you!

| Oh, it's the whole "people looking at me I'm gonna fall on my rear and they're all going to laugh at me," and the "I'm going to freak out now and I don't want to bug everybody around me by having a panic attack right here" social anxiety thing that I've got going. So I'm looking for a smaller resort, one that is also quiet. I'm a fan of the outdoors, so big open spaces don't bug me all that much. Super closed in spaces is on my list of things to avoid, though. And why I'm going for the Food and Wine festival...well, your friends really only get married once! (you hope!) But thanks all, Riverside sounds ideal, and saving a few bucks by going there instead of WL will allow me that mid-trip spa relaxation day. |

| If you can swing it, financially, and it sounds good to you - a Ft. Wilderness Cabin is good. Or, rent a small camper and stay at the campgrounds. The cabins are really mobile homes (manufactured housing), but are spacious, comfy - and secluded. Even though we had people on both sides of us, we never heard them and felt very alone. It was a wonderful place to relax. With the full kitchen, you can cook some of your own meals, and save money that way. |

| I don't really know if folks are interested, but I am going to put this out here because if I was curious, then other people probably are, too. I chose Port Orleans French Quarter - the big giant heads are of a style that won't bug me, as they aren't actually alive. It's also smaller, and I made sure to request a quiet room when I called...I've had to make a few changes (adding a guest, adding meal plan), and each time that they go over my total reservation, they do say that my request is on there! My boyfriend was invited! It was one of those "well, I know you already sent in your RSVP note and we hadn't invited him but he sounds really cool and if he'll help then we'd love to have him" messages that causes a fair amount of shock due to its sudden appearance. He's my rock in these situations. Even though I have a support system with me (outside of my "feel good" kit of a slinky, book, MP3 player), I'm getting my doctor to write me a note and will be getting a GAC. I'd rather have it with me and NOT use it, then to not have it and end up seeing the paramedics because of a panic attack in a line. I've also written down which rides and shows I want to see, along with personal tips and tricks. |

| Well I stayed at a motel that was off property and very isolated!!! But it was a few miles from WDW. So not sure if you would be interested. I just wanted to wish you luck.
