| torn tendon in foot Hey all We are going to WDW next week and I was hoping my torn tendon would be all healed by the time we left but it's taking forever to heal. My doctor doesn't want me walking around the parks as to give it more time to heal ( i guess walking would injure it more ) I'm trying to decide weather to bring a wheelchair from home, get one from an off site company, or just get one in the parks each day. I think I can walk from the buses but who knows I have lymes so my joints act up sometimes. What would you suggest I do TIA Jesse

| Only you know your comfort level when it comes to walking (how far, how long, etc) so based on that, I really can't offer any advice. I do want to send you pixies though for a good trip ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Not sure about the wheel chair situation but I do wish you the best. I had a major problem with my foot when I was at WDW! The clinics were really good. (I went to the one in EPCOT). Best wishes, scott

| I would rent a ECV from off site. Why???????????? Because pushing someone in a wheel chair is not fun. (So says my DH) Animal Kingdom is the worst.. Check the sticky threads for companies that rent them. (Free delivery & pick-up to your resort) I will be bringing my own ECV this time & hoping the airline takes good care of it. I usually rent because I wasn't sure how it would travel.. But I am going to be brave..

| Rent one from off-site. Partly for the reason Eeyore Tattoo says, and partly because if you get to a park, and discover that you need one, there is no guarantee that they will have one. Go with an ECV - pushing a wheelchair is TOUGH at WDW - it is NOT level, anywhere AND if you are being pushed, you are at the mercy of the pusher as to where you go and what you see. |

| If you have someone that can push you around and you (and them!) don't mind doing so, the wheelchair could be a less expensive option. If you have one at home I would bring it to save money, but you will be carting it everywhere so think about that too!

| Looks like you have alot of options here. There are good reasons to use a wheelchair and other good reasons to use a scooter. I'd suggest weighing the advice and deciding which pros and cons mean the most to you. The one thing I would STRESS, though, is not to overdo it. You also have the Lymes to consider. Walking from the car to transportation, I think, is wasted steps, which makes me lean toward bringing your own chair that you can take to the car. If you plan to ditch the chairand walk a bit, I'd do it in the park, while you are touring small areas. This way you have great scenery AND there are plenty of benches if you should need to sit while a family member runs and fetches the chair. On the topic of ditching the chair and taking a short stroll in the parks, some people I speak to are afraid to leave their chairs and walk, not because they aren't able, but because they've endured nasty glances from people who think they are one of the many GAC abusers just trying to cut the waiting time in line by using a wheelchair. It is unfortunate that the abusers are causing problems for those with very real hidden disabilities, or real problems with strength or endurance, but I wouldn't let that stop you. So, my two cents is roll along the parking lot and save your steps for where they matter most! In the parks! Hope you have a magical time either way!

| I would bring your own. The wheelchairs at disney are not the most comfortable ones, I used them in 2000 when my ankles swelled up really big and I developed a heat rash on my ankles and legs. I was more than happy to get out of the chair after 2 days. At least at home you have choice of the chair you rent, at Disney you have to take what you can get.

| If you are able to afford an ECV, I would say go for it, but as others have said, rent one off property. They will deliver it right to your resort and pick it up when you are done. Plus the price is much cheaper. If you decide to go with the wheelchair, I would bring the one you have from home. As someone mentioned the ones at WDW are not that comfortable. Bring a cushion to sit on.
