| Depression or dark moods? Do you ever have depression or go to a "dark place" What do you do to try to come out of it? I am not talking about clinical depression, but more like those times when you get down.. Having fibro I get depressed when pain takes over my world. I hide out in my room.. When I get sad I try to think of all the good things in my life & that there are many people that have it things worse than me . I remind myself I have a wonderful husband & my Haley here for me.. I know I will have more depression, But I also know I will get through it with my Mike & Haley here for me.

| I use to have anxiety alot and my mom would have me build a house and tell her all the things I would put in it but I like to imagine walking through Magic Kingdom and visiting all the places in my mind but I have to follow the roads not jump from place to place.

| I have had both, clinical and what I call "event depression". It is a very different thing. When I find myself in that dark place, if it is very bad the focusing on the happy things in my life don't always work. I have to kick myself up a level first, if that makes sense. I do that by first distracting my brain. I lay on the bed in quiet so I can concentrate and I do a mental "walk through" of something that I'm very much looking forward to. Often that is an upcoming vacation, like our Disney trip right now. I know our general schedule plans well enough that I can literally walk myself through it. In fact, you are currently part of my happy place plans and that mental walk through I use right now and our night we are meeting at MK. When I get to that point and my brain is distracted from what was keeping me feeling so down, I can usually use dog and cat hugs and awareness of my loving husband to bring me the rest of the way out of it. My mom has fibro and I know that those days can really drag her down deep. for less of those days.

| my tricks are to do what the above posters do--visualization and training. i see MK or the boat ride to DTD from POFQ, i see the room in the french quarter. i've traveled lots of places and never left home. and i don't know if this works for everyone, but my grandma believed that happy or sad was somehow a mental choice and you could train yourself to be happy. when even a negative thought starts, you stop it and think something happy or good. thanks to her i don't even have to work at it at all. evidently there is some scientific proof she may be right.

| I call it the darkness. It is like one of them sci-fi movies where the person stands there as an evil black shadow slowly engulfs the person. It is hard to get out of and I spent a long time in the darkness. I found Sue and her band of nice people who got me to train myself and get over lots of bad things. For me it takes food, love, friendship, compassion and sunshine people. I spend a lto of time on facebook waiting for friends. I went into the darkness not in one blow this year. It started with a friend accusing me of cheating but not listening to me. She knows me too well and that hurt. Then I got banned after mean women shunned me and spread lies and set off my triggers. I to this day cannot fathom such cruelty and taht was a major blow to loose my support group. I lost another group when I told the admin that I would not tolerate a fake priest dissing hispanics. Then banned by a dude who was so sweet and so promising of understanding my birth related quirks. it was this year not one person or event but slowly one nudge after another. It was dealing with my mother's health. For me it is thyroid meds, lots of loving people who care for me and send out beacons of light and set there waiting for me to come out of the darkness, and it is me recognizing that I am going into a dark spell or that one of my triggers is coming up. I walked away from a game recently for a day and left a board for a week and took naps when my system was screaming for rest and relaxation. There is no one set answer as illnesses such as SID, diabetes, and arthritis can contribute to the body becoming susceptible to depression. Diet, exercise, and good weather can affect a person. For me i need to be in DLR walking, eat good food, take thyroid meds daily, and avoid cruel women who find shunning and attacking people more fun that the joy I get in helping people through life. Hold my hand and lead me away from the darkness, Also it is proven that donating real life and pixel stuff if beneficial to the brain. Go online and be a goody two shoes and help people out.

| Actually, I'm there right now after being forced to defer my enrollment for a year. I am taking each day one at a time and trying very hard to concentrate on small, pleasant instances during the day and my family and the positives in my life rather than the negative. |
