DME wheelchair access? (duplicate post from travel section)

I wanted to make sure I have all my bases covered, so I posted this here and in the travel, Getting There and Back, section.

We were wondering: does anyone know if every DME bus has a wheelchair lift? How long would it take to get one there?
DD Samantha and her DH arranged for DME last summer, and ended up having to wait 2 hours for a bus that could take them, while their caregiver's 6 year old whined she wanted to see Mickey NOW!! We don't want a repeat of that.

Also, do you think they send the buses with lifts to co-ordinate with the timing of the flights, and not think about the time it takes to get the wheelchairs off the plane (yes, wheelchair users get to load first, but they are the last ones off, because their chairs take a while to load and unload).

I'm going off my memory from 2007, but I am pretty sure our DME bus did not have a chair lift. At the time it was not a problem for us because DD didn't have her chair yet. I am curious as to the answers on this one though. We will be going back next year for sure and possibly this summer. DBF wants to fly this time so the info on DME and wheelchair access will be useful.

Not every bus has a lift, so your wait will be shorter if they know ahead of time that you will need a lift bus. That way, they can plan pickups to take that into account rather than have one of the wheelchair buses out on a run where it was not needed.

They are aware that it takes longer to get off the plane with a wheelchair, but how much they take that into account, I don't know.
I do know that we have ridden a number of times and have not seen a bus going to our resort that we could not get on because it was not wheelchair accessible.
We have never waited 2 hours for a DME bus.

You do need to be prepared, with or without a wheelchair, that there can be a wait for the DME bus. If that's not OK with you, you may be happier renting a car.

When you make your DME reservation let them know you need a lift & they will make sure you get on the right bus..
