Re: WDW Disabilities List

I noticed that obesity is missing from your list, a significant disability for many, and especially notable at WDW because it can limit a person's access to rides.

Also, in my profession I encounter mental illnesses which can make a visit to WDW more difficult - for example, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and Social Anxiety Disorder.

Re: WDW Disabilities List

My son, age 9, and I each have Juvenile Diabetes. We both control our diabetes via an insulin pump and find that it is much easier than trying to juggle shots while within any amusement. My son also suffers from asthma but has never had any flare-up while at an amusement park.

Hope this helps.

Ref Pregnancy as a disability - Yes I would say

Some states consider Pregnancy a temporary disability. As a person with disabilities (and yes there others who are much more disabled than me & I thank God every day that none of my ailments should cause my death). And a person who has been pregnant there are definitely times when a pregnant woman must make concession just as a person with disabilites may. Infact some of my pregnancies had much more restrictive measures than any of my current permanent disabilities. Just my two cents -

Re: WDW Disabilities List

I have Fybromyalgia and Cronic Fatigue.
I usually push myself till I can't stand the pain. Being at Disney World is my "Happy Place" Where I can forget about how bad I feel most of the time.

Re: WDW Disabilities List

Add another with Cerebral Palsy to the list (me!) I walk with a noticeable limp, which makes me a little slow, but I "just keep swimming"! (My favorite Dory quote from Finding Nemo)

Re: WDW Disabilities List

Hi!
Great Thread!
Last May we went DROVE to WDW less than a month after I discovered that I had Degenerative Disc Disease in my neck!! I was in intense to severe pain, spending several days flat on my back before our trip. I took it easy the first several days in WDW after experiencing "0" pain (didn't ride ToT, Space Mt., Big Thunder Mt., Test Track, Rock'n Roller Coaster, and Star Tours), but then I started feeling "really brave" and rode on everything except for Space Mt. and Rock'n Roller Coaster pain free!! I have stopped myself from carrying anything heavy on my shoulders (as I think that is what caused the degenerative disc in the first place!)
It was absolutely wonderful being healed in WDW!
This October I am hoping to take my parents and 89 year-old grandmother (who will need to be in a wheelchair - I think I'll be able to use one for free from Old Key West, instead of renting one at the parks), so I guess I'd better start reading up on traveling with a mobile disability (she walks with the asssistance of a walker).

Note: If you will need a wheelchair check with your resort first. They might provide one for free as part of their services!!

I also have hypothyroidism (controlled with Synthroid medication). I am going to seek medical advice for Adult ADD , also.

Re: WDW Disabilities List

Add me to the list with Mastocytosis (a very rare autoimmune disease). It is called an "orphan disease" because under 200,000 people have been diagnosed with it in the US. But, hey, roll with the punches, right?

Re: WDW Disabilities List

I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type 1 (a genetic brittle bone disease caused because my body does not make enough collegan) and a related disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Both are very rare. I am curious to see how I do at WDW.
