| WDW Disabilities List Hello fellow Passporters! How is everyone doing? Since it's been pretty slow lately on our side of the Passporter community, I thought of something that could be really interesting to do. I thought maybe we could compile a list of all of the different disabilities that people have that travel to Walt Disney World. I thought it would be neat to find out how many different types of disabilities Disney witnesses every day. Maybe this can be the encouragement some people need to be able to travel to Disney World. If you want your disability added to the list I am compiling, just post your disability and I will edit the list everytime we get a new post. WDW Disabilities List 1. Autism ********** 2. | Re: WDW Disabilities List Legally Blind/low vision. I can read regular print, but have trouble seeing things far away, like menus posted on walls in restaurants, etc. I have almost no peripheral (side) vision, sometimes known as "tunnel vision", and also limited depth perception, so I can't always tell where the edge of steps are. But WDW, here I come! |

| Re: WDW Disabilities List Kristin, I think this is a great and interesting post. I'd love to hear what everyone else accomplishes. I think Disney is super accesible and all the CM's are so helpful in seeing that the whole family enjoys the experience. When traveling to Disney we go with DS Mobility disabilites(nerve and muscle weakness) Developmental Delay Seizures DM Arthritis COPD/Emphysema Fatigue problems For the first time this trip we may also be traveling with Oxygen for my Mom. She is only on 2 litres and mostly at night so her Dr. said she may be able to go w/o and bring a prescription if necessary. I don't love the Dr. or the sound of it but she does so... This will also be our first trip with 2 wheelchairs. Heading for my box of Wheaties just thinking of it . |

| Re: WDW Disabilities List I have a 14 year old with autism and Tourette's syndrome, which makes for some interesting vocal encounters. This Sept. will be our 3rd trip (8th for me). We stay at All Star Music because he loves the pool there and of course, we couldn't possibly alter what we've done before, a lovely feature of autism being a need for sameness. We did however manage a couple of days at the Radisson Parkway last year post-Disney and he did great there. They have Pizza Hut pizza, one of his favorite foods, available in their snack bar. | Re: WDW Disabilities List Oldest DS has pervasive developmental delay and oldest DD has moderate autism. DS does just fine at WDW but DD has yet to go- we are hoping another year of development and more training with her PECS board will serve her well for her first trip- maybe sometime in 2005. | Re: WDW Disabilities List Maureen, we use the PECS system with my brother. It works very well. Good luck with it! I update this list once every day or every other. Maybe we could send it to Disney or something. Just a thought! --Kristin |

Also causes inability to control body heat, breathing problems, off-set balance, and poor circultion. 2. Hypoglyenimic- Cause blood sugar to drop easily. 3. Scoliosis- Corrected with posterior rods and anterial rods and also corrected with a full trunk brace. 4. Short term memory loss |

| Re: WDW Disabilities List We have our share in the family. Myself - Asthma (controlled) Almost continuous production of kidney stones (unfortunately, not controlled) Type 2 Diabetes Partner - Thrombophlebitis - (developing blood clots in the leg veins - poor mobility - disabled plates - occassional hospitalization and somewhat controlled by medication) Arthritis (managable) High Blood Pressure (controlled) Sleep Apnea (CPAP is a wonderful thing) Daughter - Hormone deficiency Other Daughter - Healthy (at least one of us is) Mom - nuerogical problems (can't live alone, memory problems, child like at times, other times almost normal) Well, that at least covers the members that are traveling to disney with us anyhow. I think it is wonderful that there are so many out there being able to provide some enjoyment to their family members with some of the more difficult medical conditions on this board. Our family even with the numerous small problems, have to plan for a multitude of situations. I can only imagine the planning involved with some of the other issues. It is nice to know that there are real loving families out there taking care of each other, and not just the awful stuff you see that happens to some people with disabilities on the news. Before my mom started having her own memory and mental disturbances, she was a geriatric nurse for years. She used to take me when I was young with her to work sometimes to visit with the elderly patients and to help feed them, etc. I saw alot of people who had been forgotten by their families. My mom took care of my grandfather with his alzheimers for almost ten years before he died. It scares me to see her not as bad as him, but showing memory problems herself. It is just good to know that there are still families taking care of each other out there. I wish you all the best possible trip to WDW and to make it a memory to last a lifetime. |

| Re: WDW Disabilities List Hi Kristen I'll be staying at the Poly in November with my family. I have MS - multiple sclerosis - and it has advanced to the point that I am wheelchair bound. The Rapa Nuie longhouse at the Poly has rooms that are wheelchair accessible and have roll in showers. The pool there also has water wheelchairs that can be rolled right in. The CMs at the Poly have been really helpful with planning our vacation and making our stay more enjoyable. They also have refrigerators available in the room for my medication.
