Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips I was at WDW in March and I'm returning in just a few days. I know this sounds extreme but I purchased a mister while there last time. At OKW our ice machine was at the bus station. I would fill the mister with cold water and then add ice to the water. That was great for a cool off at mid-morning. For all day. Drink tons of water. The mister you purchase at the park can passed around to everyone. I also had a small fan that I carried in my bag. While in line for the rides we would break out our fans. Lights colored clothes- for heat and bugs Wash cloth in a zip lock bag with some water. A quick pick me up. Ask you local drug store for a cool wrap for your neck. You place it in cold water it swells with in ten minutes, and is placed around your neck. That works wonders. I used it for sunburn the first day. sunscreen...lots of sunscreen. don't be afraid to walk into a shop just to cool off...that can help.... and the number one cool off...Epcot Ice Station..

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit I have severe food allergies and have to constantly carry an Epi-pen. I am taking a small piece of paper this trip that includes my allergies, current medication, and doctors names and phone numbers. I have also gone over the basics with my group about the use of the Epi-pen. Benedryl bandaids moleskin benedryl cream for bug bites surfer salve (the best stuff for sun burn and botanical)

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit The card idea (with current meds and allergies, etc.) is a great idea - I'm going to do this right away. Another suggestion for those of you who have to bring injections on airlines - you must have a prescription to show baggage checkers. Also, check with your pharmacist or doctor to make sure that the x-ray machines your meds must pass through won't affect the meds. I have an injection that must be refrigerated. I carry it on with me and mention it to the baggage checkers before I put it through. When I get to the Disney resort, the front desk will put it in a fridge for me if my room isn't ready. WDW supplies a free fridge if you have a medical necessity for it. It's always been a dorm-sized fridge - but I've heard there are also small ones (shoebox sized) they sometimes give to guests for meds. Eileen

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips We use a differnet type of "mister". Thet utilize a pump which builds up pressure, and then the H2O is sprayed out in a fine mist from a little hose. We got them from QVC and they have been lifesavers at WDW,softball games and soccer matches all year 'round!

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips Personally I don't like the misters because people tend to be very careless with them and mist not only themselves but others in the area. Since I use a power wheelchair in the parks I avoid people with misters. The water can damage the controller and that is over $1000 to replace. Instead I use a gel scarf. I make them by loosy filling a tube of material with gel beads that you use for making floral arrangements. Then I will soak it in cool water until it is saturated and tie it around my neck. Keeps me cool as the water evaporates. Rejuvenate it in any cool water fountain.

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit My "medicine" kit also contains needle and thread and safety pins. I hate when the kids are running around with a button popped off and it always shows up in the pics. And I carry a little pack of tissues. They are never around when you need them!

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips I just recieved one of those neck coolers in the mail FREE from Copaxone, the company that manufactures my MS medication. The neck cooler is made by a company called "Pacific Coolers" and it states that the cooling effects lasts for 18 to 30 hours! All the MS medication companies are in stiff competition with one another so these may be available for free by other med companies as well. Stay Cool.

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit I just happened upon this post and I would add an extra pair of eye glasses, if you have and wear them. I know I am LOST without mine, and my particular prescription is so strong that only a few labs in the country can make them. A trip would be totally RUINED for me if I broke mine and didn't have a spare pair with me. ![]() I would also, based on personal experience, add lotion to my list of "must haves". Last year, I got sunburned and had no lotion with me. I bought a sample-size bottle at the resort gift shop for $2.50 I'll never do that again!

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit After our last vacation, I would recommend Benedryl Cream, chewable benedryl tablets (for kids) and a disposable ice pack. Granddaughter had a wasp fly into her shirt and it stung her 3 times before I could kill it. While the ice pack had no real value, it made her feel like we were doing something while we were riding back to the hotel to put her in the tub. She welted up pretty good, but except for a light rash all was gone by the next day. The benedryl was the big difference.

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit I always have an extra pair of glasses too. Very important to have if you can't function without them. Another thing we bring is sort of first aid for my daughter's wheelchair. We keep a small set of Allen wrenches, a regular wrench and a screw driver in a small bag under her wheelchair. That way, if anything on the wheelchair loosens up, we can fix it right away before anything falls off or becomes unusable. We also found by experience, that if you need tools for wheelchair repair, maintenance in the parks or your resort can help you out. The bike rental place at the resorts will help you if you need air in a wheelchair tire.

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips We stay cool and healthy by bringing our own brita H20 bottles from home, mom carries a cold wet washcloth in a ziploc bag for refreshing, I care Dove refresher wipes. Nine year old has her mister fan, and a Brita H20 bottle. I have always gotten sick from H20 other than the H20 my stomach is use to. I have also checked on my meds and my daughter's meds and both say stay away from exessive heat and sun, not sure what we are going to do at this point, this will be our first trip to WDW in June on meds. Any suggestions would be great. ![]()

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips Another tip is to buy a couple of those neat little "pressurized mister" bottles (we get ours at BJ's). You fill them with cold H2O and then when you want to cool down, just pump it up to build up the internal pressure and release the valve on the little hose. Presto! Your covered in a fine mist of icy water. )The kids love them at their soccer games too!). The on;y problem seems to be that everyone is fascinated by them and I end up misting a dozen strangers who beg me to help them cool down!
