Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips

Last June it was too hot to be outside mid0day, so we went for tea at the Grand Floridian! That was a fun change of pace!

Re: Helpful Things to Take to WDW

I know that I am REAL late in responding to this, but I don't remember seeing it before. We have bought these "stadium" seats at Walmart for around $7.00 per seat. Very handy with all the pockets and comfortable, especially on hard bleachers. We use them at DS's baseball games. Never thought of bringing them to WDW, but what a great idea!

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips

On really sun-bright days, a light-colored long-sleeved shirt of a very thin material, such as a cotton gauze, can actually be cooler than bare arms. You can also dampen the shirtsleeves a bit for an extra 'cool' without having mist all around. (I'm another one who *really* doesn't like misters.) Be careful to use sunblock under the shirt, though, because very thin material will not block the UV rays.

When we're going to be there in the hotter seasons, we also plan our days around where the AC is - alternating riding/doing something that's out in the heat with something that's inside.

Overall, though, the best way to beat the heat is to schedule your trip in November/December, or in February/March!

Re: Helpful Things to Take to WDW

I stock up on rain ponchos from the Dollar Store. They are 2 for $1. We each carry one in our belt pack. Sure beats $6+ for one at Disney!

Re: Helpful Things to Take to WDW

When touring the parks...DH and I wear our fanny packs and use them kind of like a tool belt. LOL. We hang items from our pack belts which we may need during the day: a baseball hat for protection from the sun or splash mountain, a waterproof lightweight hooded pullover jacket which folds up in it's on pocket and can be hung by a loop on the zipper pull, and of course the water bottle. The jacket comes in handy whenever there is a downpour or wet ride...and it is not as bulky or as difficult to fold up and keep folded up as the rain ponchos they sell everywhere.

We also take colorful bandannas with us to tie on the handle of our baby strollers so we can easily identify which ones are ours when they are parked in the stroller parking areas.

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips

I just drink lots (non sugary drinks). Wear cool clothing, since i burn easy I tend to wear thin shirts with long sleeves.
What I don't do is go in and out of Air conditioning if I can help it. I get headaches if I do this, but not if I just stay out in the heat. I think that's what I like least about WDW is I have to go in and out of AC to enjoy the rides.

Re: Helpful Things to Take to WDW

Okay here is my abbreviated list of must haves:

1. If hot weather: A little hand held fan
2. Moleskin for blistered feet
3. Hat of some sort.
4. Fast pass holder...you can get one of these at the world
5. Pop/water straps (You can get these there too...we have
a whole collection)
6. Sunscreen (little clip on bottle to put in my waistpack
or hang from the strap.
7. Press penny (Quarter & penny dispenser, recommend M&M holder)
8. Autograph book and pen
9. Little pack of handwipes and kleenex.

These are my absolute park must haves. I always had a park map...and the little passporter notes to give to people.
I also like sunglasses but they aren't a must have...the baseball cap I carry usually is great sun shield.

Now my room packing list is drastically longer...I almost
forgot I get one of those little Tylenol or advil holders and keep one or two aspirins in there, a benadryl or allergy pill, and even a dramamine. Covers all my bases and I have been known to have to use all three in one day with my family of 3.

Re: \"Beat the Heat\" Tips

I must concur with my best bud here. We went last August and it was torture. I'd also recommend the taking breaks in the hottest part of the day. Go back to your room and nap or even better go to the pool!!!

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit

I get the benadryl stick...that you can dab on bug bites and rashes. It's great to carry around when you get bug bites.

Re: Helpful Things to Take to WDW

April,
I love your idea of using the fanny pack as a tool belt kind of thing. Seems so obvious. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for sharing.

Re: Your WDW First Aid/Medicine Kit

I've gotta have a nail kit. Clippers & files & maybe even tweezers. I am always breaking a nail without a clipper or file in site so now I have kits in everything I carry from my purse to my backpack to my camera bag.
